Rig so that those little midges are at the bottom. I checked for that book Steve recommended on Amazon and there are several pages available for review, to include rigging.

Unfortunately no fish today, but a bad day fishing is still a good day to be on the water!

My first reaction was this is the South Platte in the Decker's area, but it can't be... there aren't six fly fishers stacked up in the background.

Nice Crayfish. I have been using a Peak for years, they just moved back to Texas. I like my Peak but decided to pick up a Renzetti the other day for smaller stuff.

I need to strip this after fishing this hard for Bass at John Marten. I will reuse the hooks sometimes. I also use it for trout on the rivers. Last year near the end of the sucker spawn this fly was hunting Rainbow sitting behind the suckers eating eggs. Typically the rear feathers are symmetrical and the front legs are long but it is easy to see how to build it in this pic. All you do for the rear fussy feathers on top of each side that is trailing is tie a feather to some clear body tubing. Only two hooks. There is a feather tied on the bottom of the hooks that curves up to stop it from getting snagged when coming out or sending it into mossy areas.

I just began to think about my next vice. Started tying just over a year ago on a Griffin Superior 2A with standard jaws. I'm getting the itch for a rotary with two jaws. I'd like midge/fine point for the small stuff. I wouldn't mind trying a bobbin rest and material holder, or at least add them later. Since I'm tying only for myself and friends-n-family, no need to buy something to hold up to commercial tying torture. Peak and Renzetti come up frequently as recommendations when reading. I've been happy with the Griffin, so I may consider them as well. There's plenty to choose from!

I've been doing everything with the Peak vice. Traded out the regular jaws for the midge jaws and it has handled everything I've tied down to size 26. It's a good budget friendly vice.

Yep, the Peak is the best for the price, when I say that I think it is the best all-around vise made. I have tried to find a set of midge jaws for mine and I couldn't, that is how I found out that Peak is moving to Texas. I got an email from them when I contacted them for a set. After you learn to use a rotary you will never go back. I also liked that they were a Colorado company.

Got the supplies to drop down to size 14 for some Buggers. Started with brown yesterday; I'll do some olive soon. Full disclosure... I did have two that had really long hackles as I was figuring out the proportions with the smaller hook (have only done a Wooly Bugger in size 8 previously), so they all weren't winners, but those will still get fished.

I believe this one had a full wrap of lead wire under the chenille:

    PXL_20220207_012806556.jpg

This one didn't, so the body looks a little thinner:

If that's cheap, then my setup is on welfare.

Did a guided trip down to Pueblo on Saturday. Was kinda on the fence since I've fished Pueblo a few times on my own and its public water, but all 3 of us caught some of the biggest fish we have ever caught. Learned so much also. The guide, Greg, really pointed out small things/bad habits that I have formed from fishing on my own. It was a great learning experience and I am definitely going to do another guided trip or two this summer. Already got plans in the works to go up to Wyoming to fish with one of my friends from HS thats guiding up there.

Also, I have never seen my dad smile like he was when he was holding the big ass fish he caught (not pictured he doesn't like being uploaded and stuff)

Very cool! Fishing porn is what this is about. My brother in-law can tell you where every big rock in that river below the dam is. He was in charge of the re construction the Corp of engineers did from the dam through the city.

Finally nabbed my first fish of the year. Fishing tailwaters during the winter for the first time wasn't a producer, but there's always next year. It's technically spring, so this one doesn't count as a "winter" fish. No secrets being revealed here... Clear Creek has brown trout.

That's a squirmy wormy I tied in its mouth.
