I won't be posting any secret fishing spots anywhere on the internet.

Venture into the mountains, grab a map, try fishing whatever little creek or lake you want to head to. Most of my favorite secret spots I just went to and found out what was there by fishing.

Planning on a mountain bike, tenkara fishing adventure this weekend to a tiny creek that supposedly has cutts in in per a questionable 2 decade old report. We'll find out when I get there.

You have given far to much away, the streams will be crawling with folks now :D

Never got the point of Tenkara, I love catching fiesty little Brookies on my 8', 3-weight.

Anyone who has fished here over last 15 years and watched/ Experienced the change over to "Combat Fishing" will never even devulge there are even fish in the water.

update: went to a fly shop and the guy immediately said Browns due to the yellow belly and white halos. He then said that the internet says Browns dont have leading white edges. However, 8 of 10 Browns in Colorado will have them.

so good call and thanks for teaching me something new! Thats what this thread is about sharing and learning!

I have an 8'4" 3 wt and love it, but for tiny little creeks the Tenkara is fine.

Plus, I'm planning on mountain biking in like 10 miles and several thousand of vertical, so weight and size are a concern.

Never have seen or heard of a Tiger Trout in Colorado, pretty cool and now I have another thing to add to list.

Also, there are 3 types of Native Cutthroats found (mostly named for where they were found) in Colorado:
    • Colorado River Cut
    • Rio Grande Cut
    • Greenback Cut*
*Interesting history of Greenback since I got here in 2000. Originally they thought they found this "lost" species in RMNP. A few years later they find a more "Genetically" pure ones west of Colorado Springs in 2 drainages. Then just a few years ago down by Durango they found the best Genetic match yet. While testing this one version a huge fire breaks out and they run an emergency operations to pull all they can out before fire reaches area. Needless to say CPW has been more secretive each find on where, etc.

I think it was the 2nd find they put into Herman Gulch, I helped carry those little guys in 2016 & 17 all the way up that sucker with TU.

That's where I nabbed mine. I hiked to Herman Lake anticipating they'd be in there, but not a fish (nor underwater vegetation) to be seen. Some scuds and bugs I've yet to learn were in there, but not one fish.

Checking out the creek saved that day from a fishing perspective. The hike was beautiful. I love getting above treeline, and the wildflowers were poppin'.

Anyone ever caught a Grayling or Whitefish in Colorado? I still have yet to land either of those.

    Grayling yes. Whitefish no.

I have a friend that fishes in town here a lot more than I do and catches them pretty regularly. In fact she just caught several this weekend, so I'm sure I'll end up landing one at some point here.

Nice, I believe we have enough to run a Trout Slam contest. Club I am in used to run one up in Steamboat area to Catch the 4 main Trout Species in a day (Timed & Total length categories).

It's not bad but Yampa, Frying Pan and Roaring fork are much better IMO.

Tomahawk SWA is where all the guides take folks.
