The fish were h-u-n-g-e-r-y in RMNP yesterday. Caught 5. Missed hook-sets on probably double that.

The first one had interesting scars on his back. Wonder if he was nabbed by a bird and dropped back into the river.

I'm going camping near Allenspark this weekend. Anyone have any recommendations for fishing around there?

Was thinking St Vrain or Brainard Lake (Lake Isabella/Long Lake and the river in between them) but looking for other suggestions!

    Thanks!

    @Squeaky Penguin

Taking a small FF club group up to Stagecoach next month. Someone mentioned they have been doing beetle kill mitigation in Sarvis Creek SWA.

    Could you confirm if possible?

Oh, for those who might not have heard.

Pat Dorsey/ etc are asking folks to NOT fish Cheeseman Canyon after the land slide events on 31st of July. Over 20 landslide areas including 3 major ones, put a bunch of decomposed granite into the NF of S Platte river.

I haven't heard anything, but haven't been out there since earlier this year when the road was still closed.

I'll cruise out there one of the evenings and report back. Good excuse to fish for an hour or two. :D

I love this section of river, but it was a challenge today.

Hiked into a little creek that's been on my list for a while. It was about the perfect creek to fish, minus the damn brookies when I was hoping for cutts. Caught well over 100 in a couple hours though.

It was alpine lake Wednesday again this week. The net is a Fishpond Nomad Emerger with an 18" basket length, to give some perspective.

I'd be fishing this river all summer if I wasn't on the other end of the state.

First visit to Summit Lake. Beautiful, but even a mid-week, later in the season (road to top is closed now) visit had a bunch of tourists. Managed a couple when I saw only one other catch one.

Golden-cutthroat hybrid caught on my birthday, which was my goal (well, a golden was the goal but I'll take it). PXL_20230928_200014092.jpg

Turns out I haven't warm water fly fished all year! The weekend didn't go as planned, so I ended up staying local and hit a small pond with some stuff I tied (rainbow warrior, something similar to a Walt's Worm but made with my dog's underfur, and another nymph jig with my dog's course hair). The bite was good! Was hoping for four species, but the green sunfish didn't come through. I can confirm there are Tiger trout in St Mary's Glacier Lake. $10 or $20 Parking and crowded.

    There were only taking Dry's.

I've been slacking lately. Nice to get back on the river.
