I don't have rust problems now on my 2007, but it just bothers me knowing that there is a "ticking time bomb" on my truck. All that it takes is one spot to compromise its integrity.

I am planning to upgrade to a 2011 so that I wouldn't be part of that era of rusty trucks. I've read that Toyota was using Dana as a third party vendor to supply the frames, but that the company was sold in 2010 and since then people haven't reported many issues with the trucks.

    http://www.autoblog.com/2011/01/18/report-dana-coughs-up-25m-to-toyota-over-rusty-tacoma-frames/

That article deals more with the older taco's but Dana was the main supplier until 2010.

This is also the Case that Toyota settled with : http://www.toyotaframesettlement.com/

I don’t since I wire brushed and POR-15’d it. Just have to take the bed off and finish the rest. But here’s a crack that’s lead to me moving on. On the plane in Denver headed to Texas to pick it up right now. Wish me luck

I saw a 2016 tacoma's frame while on the lift at a buddies auto repair garage. This truck was there for an oil change, and grease job. That tacoma had no rust protection, it looked much like my tundra did after 19 years that had some rust protection with fluid film. Imo, if something isn't done soon with this frame, the salt we have here on the roads, will totally eat it up in a few short years. Imo, its going to be a candidate for a frame replacement.

I'm going to check with Toyota to see what I’m able to do to the frame that won’t disqualify it from the settlement. Personally, I’d like to POR-15 it.

Some guys i know swear by por-15. I've used in the past on trailer i use to have. I wasn't sold on por-15. I've done better with surface rust that was pretty heavy with scale, using a drill to wire brush it away best as possible then using a rustoleum rust converter painted over on the bare rusty metal. Once cured, I bought some good black oil based chassis paint and when over that. After it dried good. I shot the surface with cosmoline rp-342.
