...longshot, as to lengths, sizing etc and I'm betting it doesn't but... anybody every tried or compared a Colorado tailgate cable for our tailgates?

While I'm not a fan of the 1st gen Colorado - I always liked their partial up tailgate feature...

It's not going to work. Rockauto has Dorman brand replacement cables and lists the length for the Colorado at 16 1/2" bolt to bolt. I just measured my '13 and the are just shy of 12" bolt to bolt.

^Good find. Looks like the cable mounts closer to the tailgate edge on the Colorado.

BTW Dorman also makes a replacement cable for the Taco, and length is listed at 12.6" (they may be measuring at outer end instead of center-to-center): http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=3827442&cc=1445515

The cable is 3/16" dia on the Colorado vs 1/4" on the Taco, so there may be strength issues as well.

That's unfortunate but not surprising - it was a long shot that they'd be a drop in fit ... and the Tacoma bed is perfectly designed with flattened wheel covers and notches for cross supports! W/ a partial tailgate - perfect for carrying 4x8 sheets.

Too long may be better than too short? I wonder what tools/techniques are involved in re-crimping/re-attaching cable ends?

AFAIK the equipment required to crimp cable ends are not hand tools. There are companies that make custom throttle cables, clutch cables, etc. for race cars and motorcycles. You can send them a sketch and get a quote.

    e.g. http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/custom/

P.S. The rubber bumper on the Colorado cable may be a good solution against pinched cables when an EZ-Down tailgate strut is installed in the Taco.
