Not enough experience behind the wheel is how.

After reading the writeup by @NYCO, I feel like the guy maybe paniced, idk

Black Bear is an easy trail, shouldn't need that much experience

One thing for sure, that big rock on side of trail saved his butt.

True there but BBP is a pretty easy trail.

Someone needs to find that video of roll over from last year. Shows how easy it is to roll when you stump on brake when a wheel is in air going down a slope.

It isn't hard, but it is also very intimidating for someone who has no experience driving on those kinds of roads. And if you don't understand how your vehicle reacts going over ledges, you panic and do what you shouldn't do - which is corrected through experience. Also having a good spotter who knows your skill level will let you do a lot more than you would be able to by yourself as they can tell you what will happen and what not to do - i.e. you'reg going to drop, but you're fine, don't hit your brakes!

I think another factor can be how busy/popular the trail is. If you're already at the edge or beyond your comfort/experience zone, and you throw pressure of people backing up behind you on top of that... Not that I'm saying that had anything to do with this, just that BBP isn't 'hard', but 'hard' is relative and things that bother some people don't bother others. I mean, I personally still haven't run it, and just all the stories and incidents make me nervous about doing so.

The person standing outside the FJ but way off to the right just pisses me off too. He should be in front. But if the driver was experienced and started dropping like that, he would have given it a little gas and been fine. Trying to go down that pumping the brakes was his issue.

They really need to have a difficult Guardian obstacle on that to stop all the inexperienced Ya-ho's from attempting it.

If I recall correctly, they made the entrance to Middle St. Vrain harder for that reason. And I agree, while relatively obstacle free and doable stock, it is not a road to be taken lightly.

Yeah, at last make guardian downhill, off camber and such so if they are going to stomp the brakes, they roll over up there and not down at the Steps portion.

Reading through the past couple of pages is whey I need to get out more. I’m a rookie and I’ll easily admit it, but the few places I’ve gone with the fam I’ve enjoyed, and I’d like to get more adventurous. But I’m definitely not going places solo at this point that are above my abilities and becoming a roadblock.

Has anyone been up to Rollings Pass ?
I tried over the 4th of July and turned around.
Now I wanna try again this weekend.

Still says this about it: OPEN Closed at mile 12. No winter maintenance on mile 1 - 12. Use extreme caution.

I'm not going up any trails this weekend with all the holiday yahoos that will be out. I'll just get pissed off and complain about transplants.

Oh and that fact I haven't fully broken the gears in yet
