It's Complicated... I think these guys have the most info on what is going on there. Scroll down to the "talking points" to understand the confusion.

One of the most disputed trail systems in the front range... county line was the closure point for a long time. debates on whether it should be open. debates on whether it is a legal route now. some say it's open to the water at least.. some say the crossing is open.. there's a route on the other side of the creek that connects hackberry and longwater, is that open? debatable.

even if you ask the counties, you'll get different answers if they even dare to address the issue.

Yeah now that I've been doing reading I recall this being talked about here last year. Trying to be responsible so I'm going to stay off those trails and find elsewhere to play.

Wow, quite the mess. Even with my partial insider knowledge from working with USFS and others, I can't find any source of current information. The IVM pretends the roads aren't part of their jurisdiction (LINK), the South Park Ranger District 2019 MVUM ("Still valid for 2020") shows Hackett Gulch as a county road 221, the South Platte Ranger District 2019 MVUM ("Valid for 2020") - Back Side shows Longwater Gulch as County Road 221 and Metberry Gulch as County Road 205. These county roads are designated as "Roads Open to Highway Legal Vehicles".

No wonder "the public" can't find information on where to legally travel - if they even seek it.

    Per Bushducks:

"6/4/20 - Per Aspen-Sopris District Forest Service: Lead King Loop (FSR 314 & 315) - Marble CO is restricted to residents only. FS 314 clear but restricted per Gunnison County to residents only. FS 315 Snowpacked."

That's what the FS page says as well, though Gunnison County Road/Bridge doesn't say anything about such a restriction. May be worth calling the county directly in case the FS is lagging behind in what is presumably virus related closure info.

This is really the best "none pay-walled" source outside of actually calling the FS/ Ranger Station.

    http://www.bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm

Folks, At least in my head, the purpose of this thread is specific to closures/ repair work on trail reference. It would be highly inefficient to post the status of each individual trail or a general trail status ask thread. Use the BS thread for that stuff.

Lots of dust and custom dents, Check Build
Haven't heard anything, but the drifts on the east side usually don't clear until well into July. Looks like last year it took until August. Out and back to the top from the Leadville side is usually possible much earlier.

Dang. The last time I tried to run it, it was snowed in. I may be out that way the week after the 4th and would love to tackle it, if possible.
