I just sleep in the back of the 4runner most of the time. What is pictured is my ARB awning with annex room. Good to get out of the elements. I ended up breaking it down. Weather was nice and there was a forecast for high winds.

Awesome! I was curious after I saw the annex in one of the photos.

Thought I would post this up from last weekend in Rollinsville. As you will see we didn't make it too far. We also checked out Gamble and Moon Gulch, both of which were not open very far either do to snow pack.

Saw a last minute trail run attempt at Switzerland Trail on a Toyota facebook group. @Littles I think it was the same group we saw up at Yankee hill, at least I found this group when I was looking for whatever he told us their name was. Wasnt any of the same trucks.

@Littles The FB group name is Colorado Toyota 4x4... I dont think its the same one.

The roads were boring on the way up, no snow sticking anywhere so I got up there in no time without having to deal with traffic.

Ended up having a heep, my truck, 1st gen taco, and two 4 runners. As we gained elevation the snow started sticking and when we made our final turn up to the trailhead that got a little slippery and it was time for 4wd. A few of us aired down at the TH and then we continued on. There were old snowshoe marks in the trail but nobody had attempted to drive it since this storm came through.

The trail wasn't difficult at all to get through, nobody put on chains and the 4runners that were breaking trail just plowed through it.

But it was freaking beautiful up there. Sad I didnt take my big boy camera up there.

I had it in 2wd a lot of the trail, and for some reason my tail end was always plowing into the snow along the side of the trails throwing sweet rooster tails from what I could see out of the mirrors. Maybe got too close to the edge a time or two. But no death means I successfully improved my rally/drift skill level.

We left the trail and got back onto a regular'ish road. I was plowing through the deep snow on one side of the road when I went to say a smart ass comment over the radio... got a little too far left and got sucked into the ditch. As I plopped in I couldnt see anything since my hood and windshield were now white. As I was sliding into the ditch I tried to switch it over to 4wd to keep traction to power out but before it locked in I came to a stop.

4lo, locked... nothing, it was sunk REAL well.

Hooked up to a 4runner and he drug me forward for another 100 feet or so along the ditch until I was able to get enough traction to climb back out. Notice the souvenir wedged between the roof rack and the roof haha. As far as I could tell, no actual damage other than I'm sure some more pin striping.

But all was well and we continued down to the Republic and went our separate ways. The roads were still slushy and are going to be HORRIBLY treacherous in a few hours when they start to ice over.

Made a short trip to Utah on Monday! Set up camp Monday night near the Dewey Bridge.

This was my first time actually using the Wildernest. Thing is awesome! Stayed completely dry in the rain and survived the wind.

    The old bridge

Ran Top of the World on Tuesday morning.

Ran into Moab in the afternoon to get some supplies and decided to run Onion springs on the way back. Fun trail to splash through the water!

    Bridge just outside of Moab

Onion Spings, counted 31 small water crossings

Set up camp along the road to Top of the World.

Wednesday we decided to do Dome Plateau.

Can't wait for the next trip!

So headed out to Moab this week. What are some of the trails a stock 4x4 long bed dc can do? I did all the trails in Sedona, Az like broken arrow. We are mainly coming out to mountain bike and hike but wanted to take a day to hit the trails with the truck.

Onion Springs is easy. Fun with all the shallow water crossings.

My epic trip. Somebody should have gone, to take pics of my epicness.
    Started like this.
    Just outside of Masonville

    My retirement home.

    Springtime in the Rockies.

So the road turned into a single track kind of thing. it was tough to stray from the ruts, drove quite a bit of it with no hands. For no particular reason.

Passed a 1st gen single cab v6 with tube bumper and a winch. No pics of this awesome truck, he was going into work and said there was a group ahead of him.
I ran into the group a couple miles further up.
    with a stuck Nissan.
    '94 Toyota, sas, Marin crawler.

No idea who these guys were but they were friendly and let me take a few pics. The '94 winched the Nissan out.
This particular spot took a few more victims that day.

Of course I drove right through it.
A couple miles further up, we ran into this group of 7. A few Tacoma's, a 4runner and some Jeeps.
    They were coming down.

So I backed down, just shy of 2 miles and ran into this group coming up.
    Nice bumper.

They had 6 in their group.
I explained the situation above and they agreed that backing up to a lower elevation would be a good idea to let me and the group above go by.
No pics of the fire drill...it was a very well behaved/organized group of guys in all the groups and there was little drama in getting turned around.
So i continued up to Greer

And Pennock Pass was closed before you could even get to it.

    Totally chill dog

End of story. Sorry pics did not do it justice but I was driving through most of it.
    :D

@BDN I probably would have joined you except a) still recovering from being sick, b) didn't get up until after noon so you were already long gone, and c) it just looked wet and miserable outside with all that rain! no snow! why not both? Looks like it was a beautiful drive though. I'm kind of surprised you ran into so many people. But I guess when it's pretty much the only thing open...

It was a spur of the moment trip, lol.
And it was much nicer up there, the snow was fluffy at that altitude.
There was a moment up there that I began to wonder just how long I was going to be between the two groups. The potential for long delayed stucks was pretty high.
    Hope you're feeling better.
