how was radical hill?

 

It delivered. It had been two years since I had been up it (forgot I skipped it last year), and the final long climb seems "looser" than I remembered. The short leg up after the last switchback is as rutted and washed out as I remember.

It was radical man. Highly recommend if your truck is properly equipped

 

I'm slacking on my pictures, I haven't even looked at them yet cause work is kicking my ass this week. Hopefully I'll get some up later this week.

Man, I really wanted to make this trip with you guys, but it just didn't work out that way.

Very cool! That part where i was defiantly tested my nerves.

 

Took a drive up Rist Canyon Rd today. When I got to Stove Prairie Ranch I decided to take Old Flowers Rd over to Pingree Park Rd. Took Pingree to Buckhorn Rd back to town. Ran into a black bear crossing Buckhorn Rd. No pictures, he bolted as soon as I came around the bend.


Stove Prairie Ranch. All the buildings are constructed of stone. Pretty cool! Now a wedding venue...not so cool. What a waste!

Radical hill isn't a super difficult climb, but it was one of the scariest trails I've been on from an off camber perspective.





Beginning of the steep one way downhill:

And this is where it starts to get tricky, right before the switch backs...like every other sane, rational person, I did not take any pictures while I was white knuckled driving across the front of the mine scared of rolling down the hill:

STILL the only group to tack on SOB at the end of that run.

 

We had plenty of time and the weather was fine. Looking back I'm not sure why we decided not to do it?

I'm thinking a couple of folks had experienced enough that day. We passed by the start of SOB at about 1:55pm, so there was time.

It worked out OK for me, as my radius arm bushings at the front axle decided to die. They're the first polyurethane bushings I've run, so the sound of them failing was a bit different than the sound of rubber ones - threw me off for awhile. I think these lasted two years; I had two sets of rubber ones fail in only one year. I'm going to try a different design of rubber bushing this time and see how long they last. If they go fast, I'll go back to poly, but try a different one ("dynamic" versus the "soft" and they have slots in them to help survive the flexing).

 

Wish I could've come. Been wanting to compare these to morrison.
