Ran Red Cone today. The colors were already past peak. A bit of a bummer.

+1! I'm headed to Colorado next weekend but I'm guessing most of those trees will have lost their leaves by then. If you guys have other great aspen spots that are off the beaten path/popular passes, I'm all ears.

Leaves Change North to South so I would shoot for Ridgeway/ Dallas Divide.

Co Roads 7,5 & 9 (Ignore Ralph Lauren's Ranch signs, you can drive the road not private property like they try to claim)

Don't have any pics on this computer but here is sneffels from Co road 7 (My favorite), climb the hill beside road when you get this view. Also several pounds off this can get you awesome reflection shots

Very nice! Thank you. I did a little exploring in this area last year but now I can't remember what specific roads I took. I think I might have taken the road in the photo.. it goes down to a parking area with a bathroom If I recall correctly? When we hit this area it was the first week of October and quite a few trees had already dropped their leaves, so maybe this weekend would be perfect timing.

I also took Last Dollar Road, which I'd like to explore on a little more. My favorite was definitely Kebler, but from what I'm reading this weekend will likely still be a little early.

    Kebler:

Yep, not sure if other roads also have it as well, but CO 7 has a Stock "yard" (Horse/ Cattle) and Vault Bathroom almost at end of road.

It's an old Narrow Gauge rail bed trail, I have seen all kinds of Sedans, etc on it. Heck @Stig will probably run it in his just acquired VW Bug.

Ivanhoe lake up there is nice and decent Trout fishing.

Someone recommended it for the scenery, so hopefully that makes it worth the while if I go.

    Any meetups planned otherwise?

Yes, Driving down to Basalt is pretty cool with the Frying Pan river, Red Soil, etc. If I get out I will probably try and make it to Marble and out to Crystal Mill. Not that far West of Basalt (other fork of valley via Carbondale)

There's an offshoot on the Basalt side I took called Frying Pan Ridge. It was pretty fun and seldom traveled. Lots of Aspens, so it would probably be pretty awesome right now.

Did it back in August for the first time, stock 2015 4 Runner. Took it as an alternative to 24/70 to get from Leadville to Glenwood. East side was decently rocky, west side wasn't too bad. Agree some of the views are great, like those posted above (that power line though....). West side is a lot longer than it seemed like it was going to be. I do recall a big patch of aspen lower down on the west side for a couple miles before/as it hits pavement, and like Squeaky said it's probably a good show right now.

Wow, forgot about my favorite place google Capital Peak Valley Fall Color, not far at all. Almost all the pics I see are from Trailhead lot or a few miles down the trail.

    Directions:
From Glenwood Springs, drive about 26 miles southeast on Colorado 82 and turn right on Snowmass Creek Road (this is not Snowmass Village). From the intersection of CO 82, it's 9.9 miles to the trailhead and the remainder of these directions assume you reset your trip-odometer at the intersection. Drive 1.7 miles to a junction and turn right on Capitol Creek road. Continue to 6.4 miles where the road turns to dirt. There's horse-trailer parking in this area and it's a good place to park if you have a low-clearance vehicle or the upper road is muddy. Continue up the rugged, narrow (and sometimes slick) road to reach the trailhead at approximately 9.9 miles.
