Looks like someone had a bad time on Pearl Pass

I went up until the first somewhat technical section past that cool little new cabin. I made a few goes but without a spotter I decided to turn around :anonymous: The goal was to camp down below and catch the sunrise at that little pond.

Fall colors are looking great in the area.

Wasn't us! Ran it yesterday morning and didn't see anything.

So you went downhill there again? I think I want to go uphill there next time I run it.

Yes. I think it's worse than when we did it.

I was showing 25°+ on the level-o-gauge, within inches of the edge, not sure I would want to go up it. I've got some really good pictures that will be posted soon.

That section of trail is no joke. Ryan was saying that made Black Bear look like a cake walk.

Wow, I definitely remember it being super close to the edge and tippy, going down you can’t see the edge too lol.

I told Ryan I wanted a passenger to watch the edge, he told me no one in their right mind would ride shotgun on that road.

Found your pic from three years ago.

It's way worse than this now.

Red Elephant Hill / Empire Loop connection / Bill Moore Lake 9/22

Started from Red Elephant hill right off of I70 past Downieville.
    IMG_20180922_102242.jpg

The trail goes from dirt road straight into a few small rock gardens which are really rutted out. I caught up with the guy in the green LC, Adam. He was spotting me through one section and gave a bad call and my truck slid sideways off a rock into a tree.
"uh...sorry...didn't see that tree" or the ledge my passenger tire was on, apparently :bananadead:

I didn't see it hiding behind my C pillar either. Better a fender than the cab, I suppose. :anonymous:

After winching off we carried on. It was reassuring that my bumper held up :D

The crushed pathfinder is really reassuring too! :cookiemonster:

    That was me and @Reh5108

Hope you found some good views from the top of Taylor!

I led a group of three through the same trails earlier this year. It's gotten very dug out in comparison to just a year ago. We had a roof rack lightly kiss a tree while off camber, but otherwise made it through unscathed... but there were a few close calls. I used both lockers to hold my line in a couple of spots where I didn't want to slide and end up in a tree.

Yeah, it's a little sketchy. Better be confident behind the wheel of your rig if you plan on driving that trail.

Fine work as usual, colors about peak, or a little past? How was Tilton? Been wanting to see what was down that spur.

The colors were all over the place. Everything from green to no leaves. I'd say not quite peak, but it will be very, very soon. There wasn't much for oranges and reds.

Tilton was pretty easy, 2wd until the last few switchbacks. View from the top was excellent, and made me add the Taylor Ridge Road to the list I still need to drive.

Is it possible to see red cone from the top of Taylor Pass? We saw switchbacks on a red mountain side in the distance and wondered if it was that.

Ah. I should have snapped a photo of what I saw. The flatland depression has kicked back in... I probably won't see mountains until next summer :pout:
