Your retired brother sells a vet and then you let him buy a Heep to learn about four wheeling?

Just when you think you know somebody they turn around and then go and do something like this. It’s a shame.

    Make him air down.....

FYI - with my stock 2003 TRD with OME suspension and 31.8" tires, PA Gulch was kind of boring to me. I have some (not a lot) of experience driving fairly technical rocky bits in Death Valley/Nevada areas with no spotter.
In a bigger truck (like a 2nd gen, haha) or not having experience off-road, it would be tougher/nail-biter. I went up when it was wet and a bit muddy and had no problems. I didn't even use my locker. Smooth throttle and 4 Low is more than enough to make it up that trail.

I was up there today helping my buddy rescue his LMTV from a spur off Switzerland/Gold Hill road...

While I failed to convince him about the jeep thing, I did convice him not to air down today. He did notice the 3 Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery Jeeps’ 37s were aired down however.

I was the asshole parked in the MIDDLE of the USFS road off Gold Hill road (here) since there was a 4' deep drift just past there that nobody would have made it through without a snowmobile or snowcat. We hiked the 1/4 mile up to the LMTV (here) and then did our work and drove out the other way. I did see a MGM 2nd gen parked with nobody in it right here: https://goo.gl/maps/kim729o2whP2

I did see your truck parked there.
I recall passing by that 2nd gen.

I should have shown up since it looks like it was mostly a 3rd gen party.

Sounds like an ABS sensor fault, maybe due to the snow bashing. My 12' Tundra would do this once in a while in deeper snow. Probably nothing to worry about.

ABS Sensors are Hall effect sensors - they measure magnetic field, which permeates snow and water. The sensor is pretty well sealed into the knuckle, so the other place to inspect is where the wires go to the nearest plug that connects into the rest of the vehicle harness to see if the snow pulled at it and caused a loose or fully disconnected plug. It is also possible that the wire got snagged on something or pushed to hard by packed up snow and is frayed or broken internally.

It was fine after i restarted it and hasn't happened since. Haven't tried to send it into any such snowbanks since though.

Older Toyota sensor like your Tacoma uses are reluctance sensors, not really Hall Effect. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_reluctance_sensor

His Tundra uses the recently adopted MRE Sensor that can more accurately measure wheel direction and lower speed. https://www.searchautoparts.com/aut...ning/understanding-magneto-resistance-element

Now why mention that? Fault detection has become so good to the point of detecting non faults. Wheel speeds while stuck or being recovered can vary from the programmed expected and set false codes. Mainly these codes will set in high range because the parameters are tighter knowing more wheel slip conditions will occur in low range operations.

For research purposes only, that sounds like you should go do some testing with friends....

    Just a suggestion.

Yep. I was the only one that day that made that obstacle. The exit made me run out of talent.

Holy mother of god. 6700 lbs? That’s 1000 lbs less than my one ton diesel. My fat ass TJ is 4900, and going on a diet.

If you would sir, let me know when this is taking place. I will be doing anything else other than being on that trail he’s on.

I guess I learned something else new today.
"The speed sensor detects wheel speed and sends the appropriate signals to the ECU. These signals are used for control of the ABS control system. The front and rear rotors each have 48 serrations. When the rotors rotate, the magnetic field emitted by the permanent magnet in the speed sensor generates an AC voltage. Since the frequency of this AC voltage changes in direct proportion to the speed of the rotor, the frequency is used by the ECU to detect the speed of each wheel."
