This is what I came to this thread to see, not bullshit about someone going off trail and throw the thread off track. The actions and way everyone reacted to that individual making a post about going around some tress isn't going to stop anyone from doing what they want besides alienate another tacomaworld person and others, which it definitely did.

So how about quit talking about it in this thread or go back to the Colorado BS thread and spew over there and lets hear about more awesome trails and trip reports like this.

Awesome trip report I will def be adding some of these to my list.

From your post count, you are new here, otherwise you would know about both how important this issue is to the off roading community and TW’s handling of these cases when they come to light.

Must not be that important if mods are more quick to ban people before hearing whether they actually did something or not than they are to educate people who could potentially repeat behaviour they don't like in the future.

If you're dealing with a malicious troll then ban away. If not, take the time to find out what really happened.

As a new member who's been around a ton of online communities, this whole situation doesn't give me any faith or confidence in how this place is run. God forbid I post something I didn't know was taboo and I get some trigger happy mod jumping down my throat. Or maybe I post something that's totally fine and said trigger happy mod decides to start throwing out bans before they even know what the real fucking story is.

I dont know the full story as to why he was banned. But I do know that even before I started driving you stay on the trail. If you can't make it over the obstacle, turn around. Simple as that. There are "Stay the trail" signs at almost every trail head, no excuse not to follow that. When I see posts of people going off trail, they obviously dont care about how many trails are getting shut down due to people going off the beaten path. Have you ever ran Twin Cone? If not, you probably wont ever get to due to crap like that getting the trail shut down permanently. Whenever someone posts a picture of their truck off the trail on social media, especially on a forum as popular as this, its opens the door for others to follow. With all of the vandalism going on, and illegal trails being made, I wont be surprised to see a lot more trails getting shut down. It's our job as a community to teach each other how to take care of the amazing back country we have.

I do agree that a permanent ban is over the top, however a temporary ban is just a slap on the wrist saying dont do it again.

Maybe they didn't know? Maybe they didn't give enough context to what happened? Maybe they never got the chance because a self righteous mod didn't care?

Funny you use the word "teach" because that's not happening here.

Still think it's funny that there's no clue as to who the mod is who did this either.

    /e

The ban explanation has false information. Cute.

If I took a shit on the sidewalk, posted a pic and said I took a shit where someone else had shit, then said I didn't know it was illegal I would be good to go, right?

Get over yourself. Look through the banned memorial thread. Blatant shit like that which get our trails shut down are normally handed a 30 day ban, and I only gave him 7. And it has nothing to do with any single moderator. We all act as a team.

Everything else has already been said by those that actually give a fuck about our trails.

Yes that's exactly what this is. Very mature comparison.

    Awesome community A+

Yeah it's clear this place doesn't care about new members.

I'm out of this circle jerk.

Your ban report already has false information stating he went around a locked gate. Which is false. You didn't have complete information.

This is how threads get locked, when they get derailed and it becomes yet another Colorado BS thread. Keep discussing things in this thread that have nothing to do with Trip Reports and the thread will get locked.

Plenty of new members come here for help and advice and more often than not they find it. What you get from any community is also a function of what attitude you bring to it.

Take the gate out of the equation. Guess what? Would have been the same result.

I'll put this up and be done.

    Possible scenarios:

    Innocent enthusiast:
Here's this super fun trip I had! Here's pictures of it. I had a good time and I want to show everyone and I'm unaware of anything I may have done to get anybody mad at me!

    Community:
Hey I noticed you said you did XYZ. If I understand what you're saying correctly then you did something wrong. Here's why you should have done ABC instead as it makes our community better. If I'm wrong about what I'm assuming please correct me and we'll continue to have a happy discussion!

    Innocent enthsuiast:
Oh cool thanks for the heads up! I'm sorry for doing that thing. I'll avoid it and make sure others also avoid it!

    Or

You misunderstand what happened and here's what really happened.

    VS

    Community reaction:
    REEEEEEEEE

    GET FUKT FOR 7 DAYS

The reaction seems to be more around someone posting like this:

    Offroad Enthusiast Douche:
I tOrE up SuM trelz ystrday cuz I hayt you aLl. Fuk CO and Fuk tuhcoma werld.

This whole discussion brings a question to mind that I honestly don’t know the answer to, so please help educate me!

If you are on a one-way directional trail and find yourself unable to overcome some sort of obstacle (rock garden, snow/mud, downed tree(s), etc) what do you do then? Obviously going around (unless there is a legitimate bypass) is wrong, but also turning around and going against the trails directional traffic is wrong too.

I know that before attempting any trail you should take all means necessary to be educated about and prepared for any obstacles you’d encounter, but unexpected things happen sometimes. What’s the best course of action in this hypothetical scenario?

the "smell" of going off trail and damaging public land affects the reputation of the 4wd sport and community as a whole. It's not a victimless crime because trails can and do get closed because of the actions of few who don't respect our public lands. It also has a negative impact on our environment that takes nature years to reverse.

Myself and other members of the 4wd community (even jeepers) don't want to end up with a scenario where things are like in the east where trails only exist in private off-road parks because public land is scarce
