Did part of flat iron Mesa today. It was rough finding the route and it took longer than we wanted so we had to bail before finishing. I tried the chutes though and made it up everything but the last ledge. The break over angle was too steep and I managed to mangle and bow my tranny skid!

That skid was totally flat before that. Since I was driving this is the only shot I have until the other people send me their shots of the attempt.

Here is the obstacle that bent that skid^^^ "the chute" on flat iron Mesa.

I know everybody likes to bag on Jeeps, but that's pretty pathetic that you had to wedge yourself on that obstacle like that just so you could winch that jeep along what looks like fairly flat terrain.

Lol that's funny. But the truth is almost as bad. I was with two jeeps and a 1st gen taco on 37s with dual lockers and I was the only one who even tried the chute! I told the taco dude that he should have done it. It was a bit intimidating but I was so impressed that I made it that high up the final climb. Totally forgot to take pics from below though

I got word that a pretty fun trail like 5 minutes from downtown opened up. So I went and investigated. Forest Service closed a bypass to the very first hill like 100 yards into the trail. Which makes the start very interesting..... So, who's coming up to Steamboat this sumer and wants to try this? :D

Had to winch all the way up:

No traction combined with bumper hitting:

That's the hardest part of the whole trail, and is honestly like 100 yards in from the gate. The rest of the trail is a much more basic forest service road, probably would be a 4ish, maybe 5 based on trail damage ratings, but I hate judging based on that due to the inconsistancy I've seen in those ratings. There's several small creek crossings, as well some more washed out rocky sections. Enough to make it in interesting road. Oh, and great for Colorado pin stripes.

Like I said, it's only a few minutes from downtown, last year I ran it several times after work, kinda like yesterday. So if anyone finds themselves up here and wants to give it a try, let me know. Probably a 3ish hour round trip heading out of town, up and back on the trail, to grabbing some drinks downtown

Yeah, trail starts at a lot lower elevation and climbs this mountain. Probably an hour or so until the snow stopped me.

    You guys are slacking....

    Well, I found more snow:

    IMAG0658_zpsigymobmu_fa6f2fd55687c7815a6985a0d7da2a63751405bf.jpg

Nothing to winch to so it took a lot of shoveling, after I got out:

    IMAG0659_zpsuy8txnr1_cc0573a76a34400e0cc085ffefb3d46893df2ff4.jpg

went camping up lead king basin this weekend, talked with a black first gen that made it up and over from marble all the way to the crystal city side of lead king so we decided to head up to check it out. great views from this trail and a few shelf road sections that had me keeping my eyes on the trail instead of the multiple hundred foot drops about a foot away from the drivers side door :)
