Well, I was supposed to go with Lumpski to Miller rock on Sunday.

Unfortunately, he couldn't make it last minute so I ended up going with some people I'd never met before from another forum.

Good guys, good trail, good fun.

Pretty well set up runner taking a harder line for fun
    DSC01911_3b26188ca8f32d979b5c10d9092cf783247107d3.jpg

an obstacle we decided not to send the stock tacoma down
    DSC01916_59514ff3a18e34cb526e2d073f33b4e6384c82dd.jpg

    the other runner
    DSC01924_22199db42f7ee01140634cbf920a5dcabe3518e7.jpg

    and back up
    DSC01929_a1c5307d935444158cc8a108c99bb338a221eb41.jpg

so apparently there's nothing holding the rear coil springs in on a runner???
    DSC01934_c3e3837346ba5a291cc0618984e83acb5fee5926.jpg

turned out the guy broke both his rear shocks (sheared at the top stem) and his driver side coil fell out at max flex. we held it in with zip ties until he got over the obstacle
    DSC01937_6840a4d66dd2299b8d8c145be188a4dad4436408.jpg

poor guy had a really bouncy ride home. I thought the tacoma was bad with blown rear shocks, but this guy looked like he was part of a lowrider competition on colfax or something, bouncing all over the place.

Miller rock and Cole's version of "Where's Waldo?"

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
Just for safety sake I had Brett spot me because I don't have any real skids or sliders at all. That was in a few spots too.

Ya that's what happens when you are borde and don't have anything to do for the day. Lol

I used a warm weekend in March 2022 to finally install my brand new from old stock 2000 4Runner driver's seat. $800 directly from the factory in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
I thought I recognized the silver 4R, it's Glen Yoshida. Met him at Toytec's open house this summer. Nice rear bumper but totally out of my price range.

Damn! At least he saw it before coming back down without a spring. And yeah, without a limit they can fall out. I wheeled Red Cone with Glen and Justin this summer, he has a sweet 4R. I really like his rear bumper with the chainsaw carrier and CO2 tucked under the truck.

Damnit, now I want to mount my chainsaw to the swingout. Not enough room, unless....

But yeah, enough flex for the coil to pop out is pretty impressive, time for limit straps.

I have seen guys make a retaining clip at the base of the springs to stop that from happening

Well, the reason it popped was due to a broken upper shock mount, but a strap might have prevented the shock from breaking.

Yup, mine definitely come loose at full droop, but not falling out.

He said they were fairly new bilsteins and their condition verified it.

The upper stud was sheared. Looks like about 3/8" (although I'm sure it's metric) threaded rod with an allen socket recessed into the end just like the 2nd gen tacomas.

It was sheared flush with the bottom of the upper bushing. So, right where the upper rubber bushing would come in contact with the mount.

Sounds like he unsuccessfully attempted to use his shocks as limit straps.
