Went to Cherokee Park today. Decided to check out North Fork of the Poudre.

Where it says "vehicles allowed beyond gate" is where I entered the trail. Where it says "you are here" is where I was when I took the pic :)
You can see Halligan Reservoir on the right side of the loop trail.

    Where I came from

Stuff I drove up. Some parts of the trail actually had a bit of challenge, just enough to keep it interesting.

This is a rock formation, you can tell because of the way it is.

    meh

looking for mtn lion and rattle snakes.

Thought this rock would look cool in my front yard.

    Little rough here.

topped out at 8495 feet. was about 90° out.

    fork to the left.

    Always on my left.

    it was warm up there.

    Left fork started like this.

    ended like this.

Pic doesn't do it justice, it's basically a dried up waterfall. Nope.

    hiked back up.

    right fork started like this.

    ended like this.

I hiked it more, forgot the camera. There are tracks that go deeper into a small canyon and wind through. It looked passable, there was gravel showing but just too much grass. So I backed out and went back to the start and took the right fork to Halligan Reservoir, and then to see if the loop was passable from the other direction.

    funny lookin deer.

    The reservoir.

just like the left side of the map shows in the beginning, the reservoir is the right fork, so I had to assume the left was the way back onto the loop, and maybe back to where I turned around.

    Halligan Reservoir

Left the reservoir, took the left fork. Actually offered a small challenge in the wheeling dept. enough that I didn't grab any pics of course.
Ended up here about a mile into it.

there was another truck there, so I hiked down the other side to see.

    Totally passable.

    North Fork of the Poudre.

    More road.

Better shot of the river. You can see where the road comes out at the bottom right, curves and goes along side the river. It disappears up into the upper left. Most likely why it's closed to vehicle traffic.

According to my gps, I turned around somewhere up in that valley on the left, couple miles back in there. Glad I turned around.

We hiked back out, drove home across Prairie Divide and through Crystal Lakes.
    End of story.

    Thanks!
Was my first time back there.
Arriving at the reservoir, I found myself somewhat annoyed that...
I didn't know one could drive basically right to the edge.
If I had known that I could drive to the edge, I would have had my canoe on top.
And lastly, I didn't even have a pole with me.:(

Will do, I would have mentioned it but knew you were camping and wanted to keep it a secret from Home Alone. :stirthepot::D

I tell you, there was one section that was real steep and loose, I slid down sideways, and came back up sideways. I was actually questioning being back there alone. But just at that particular spot. The rest is a cake walk. Never saw a single soul aside from the funny lookin deer. Lots of camp sites too if you can stand the heat.

There were downed trees here and there that looked flammable. More so on the LH fork from the main entry. Better camp sites too.

I've been to the sand hills before, jumped my Scout there a few times with great success :D
I don't think I could camp there though, way too much 2 stroke noise happening and I don't like sand in my anything.

Yeah it would have to be mid-week to avoid the masses and their shenanigans. The sand does make its way everywhere too, from what I remember of my quad-riding days.

We ran Liberty Trail down in Penrose on sunday. I thought there would be a lot of people there since it was fathers day. I was there the day before and there were about 8 rigs. But it was only us and some friends of ours that day. Was the first real test on our friends new build lovingly named Felix. They did run into some trouble at one point but we managed to get it diagnosed and fixed after a while thank goodness. Would have been a long day getting the truck out with no power haha. Battled some overheating issues too due to it being 100+...I thought we were going to die. And the bugs down there are crazy. I've never seen it so green.

    Our trip in a nutshell:

My buddy drove Wheeler lakes (built 4runner, not a taco), still some snow. You can go a bout a mile past "the notch" or the "V".. we turned around early, but heard you can not yet get to bowling ball hill.

if you want to see some picts, nothing spectacular. Also did Browns pass/Breakneck pass (park county) in my taco.... all is good, big mud hole has dried up!

I'm staying at the bottom of mosquito pass.... still a lot of snow last time i rolled up the hill, you could make it until the trail crosses the first valley and starts up the other side, then its snowed in.

Drove the north fork of the Swan river in Breck yesterday... all is good till what appeared to be almost the end of the road (see picture). Didn't attempt the middle or any other, just out and back.

    Triple post!!

you can drive the to mile 3 of Mosquito pass... thats about one mile of interesting driving and five of bumpy shit... Snow blocks the road at the North London Mine... and theres 3 parts of the road that is pure runoff, so its interesting.
