You're free to do what you like. :) The rules and laws don't matter until you get caught. If it's federal land and involves a firearm, there are lifetime implications. Hopefully nothing more than a warning or fine happens... but if that's the day LE wants to set an example, it could mean a felony which means no more firearms ownership, etc. I hate to hear of anyone being made an example - BTDT unfortunately (separate incident to the court appearance I mentioned earlier... another young-and-dumb moment). I would expect the stats for total number of recreational target shooters to number of convicted target shooters for illegal activity are pretty far apart... but all it takes is to be at the wrong place at the wrong time once to become a statistic.

Ok... but I know where you are in that pic you posted. You are no where near 150 yards off the trail (thank you for clarifying @JDM I could not find that link this morning) which is cleary apparent by the trail block fences in the background. And yes everybody shoots there which is also apparent due to the shells discarded everywhere. Hopefully you policed your brass and maybe cleaned up some extra.

It's already been said but just cause everybody shoots there doesn't mean it legal.

I've spent a lot of time shooting on public lands, and generally think if you're being truly safe, you're OK. But then again these places I've gone are not near the front range when there are so many more people trying to use the areas.

One other big thing I would add that I don't believe has been mentioned, is to absolutely make sure to pick up any mess or brass you leave. Harms both shooters and wheelers to litter trails.

If anyone wants to run Saxton to Cascade Creek or the other way around I snow bashed the trail today and you can get through now. I ran it from Georgetown over which I've never done before.

However, the snow has blown into the rutted out parts of the road and made deep pockets that require good MT tires. Be ready to winch or dig yourself out.
These pics are taken at the base of the winter challenge, which should be ready to open before too long, from what Brett was saying.
The run was interesting but nothing too tough. Go up and hit this one before it snows too much more.
Thanks for a good day guys.

The only pics I have are from road 300, which @Husky Driver and I ran after 7-Mile.

    "stuck in the ditch mod"

Snow was significantly deeper on this road.

    And a winch recovery.

Made it further than the previous year.

Having gone 250k, Aug 2016 was the time to replace the original clutch & get the driver's seat rebuilt/stuffed. Front & back Weathertech liners. '05 Tundra front disc brake swap. Full length Rocky Mountain Rack with 40" lightbar, Alternating strobe rear dust lights. I used a warm weekend in March 2022 to finally install my brand new from old stock 2000 4Runner driver's seat. $800 directly from the factory in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
I got stuck further up in the curve & in the process of backing up my left tires got hopelessly stuck in the frozen rut of the inside drainage ditch. Even the rear lockers didn't help on this one. I think if I had true offroad knobby tires it wouldn't have been as much of a problem. I'm also pretty much sold on the AmSteel synthetic winch rope over my OEM Warn steel cable. It's officially on the (long) list of future upgrades.

We did make it further down the road this year compared to last, but last year we did the drive on Dec 1st so the conditions may not be that different if we tried again in a couple of weeks. (idk?)

Oh yeah, the fuel cans are E-85.

@Night Eagle and I ran Deadman road as far as we could.
started like this. Only took 5-6 tries to bust through.

Leo getting ready for his run.

there was a lot of this.

I let him lead for a bit.

it was windy as hell everywhere, but right here was totally serene.

Leo giving it all he had, and was doing very well.

    then back up,

    and again

that's a snowmobile/sled track we followed. We made first 4x4 tracks, and we may be the only ones to do so this year.

stuck in the ditch mod, redux.

we both winched through this. Leo had to perform minor repairs to his winch first....

it was crazy, snow, drifts, then bare dirt.
