I have spent the past 2 days researching power options for my 21 TRD Pro. I have a Dometic 55 coming, and think I have a few options...

    1. Dual battery setup.
    - This option adds weight which can cause some issues.

    2. Replace stock battery with a 27f battery.
    - I understand this option would require an ECU tune to get the proper output from the alternator.

    3. Buy something like a Jackery or Goal Zero.

    4. Add solar panels to all of the above.

We probably won't be staying in any site more than 2-3 days without driving the truck and we will only have the Dometic and maybe an LED light, so we should have fairly minimal power draw outside the Dometic. But I don't want to be power challenged either.

There are pros and cons to everything, but would combining the x2Power AGM with the Jackery make any sense? With my use case what do you guys recommend would do the job?

    Thanks!

First thing first, sit down and do the math to figure out what the Dometic power draw will be. From there, choose your power solution accordingly.

Battery packs like Jackery/GoalZero are easy to acquire and practically “dummy-proof” they are by far inferior to some other solutions from a technical and cost per Wh perspective. People use them but it depends on your own personal use case. Lithium Phosphate > Lithium Ion for future-proofing.

1 - Issues with added weight? Your truck can handle the extra 50 lbs.
    2 - I’ve never heard of this. I went from a 27F to a 24F and a 34F, plus a 200-amp alt, and no ecu tune.
3 - yes, if they meet power demands.
    4 - could help.

I say adding a deep charge battery is your best option for the most hassle-free setup.

Standard alternator output is fine if you stick with a lead acid battery. You will need a new battery tray, Toyota part # 74431-0C020. Your best 27F lead acid options are either a Duralast Platinum EFB from AutoZone with 810 CCA and 140 minutes of reserve capacity, or a Deka Ultimate with 840 CCA and 140 minutes of reserve capacity.

You can fit up so a single group 31 or even maybe a group 34 vs the smaller group 27.

Yeah from what I've read the ECU tune for newer models is needed when moving to agm battery. So no need if you stick lead acid and upside.

Read up on battery types, i.e. Lead Acid vs AGM vs LiFe. Different types have different strengths and weaknesses. Lead acid is not the best choice for what you are trying to do. AGM can made to work but ideally a LiFe is what you want - but they aren't cheap. That said there are some "relatively" good deals on them right now. A 100A-Hr bat would easily pwr your fridge and lights for multiple days.
