I’m talking about companies from the 1850s-1900s. Not modern day. Do you not know of things called superfund sites? Maybe you heard of love canal? I live 25 min from there. Tons of toxic chemicals dumped many years ago, with little to no repercussions to this big companies.

    I can't believe you are worried about a paint chip...on a truck.

I may be wrong, and if I am please feel free to correct me, but you can't apply ceramic coating OVER PPF. the ceramic coating bonds to the clear coat (or top paint coat) on your vehicle. it isn't designed to bond to a pliable surface like PPF. so you would want the ceramic coat to be applied first and given ample time to cure before installing PPF. but, then if you have a problem later with the ceramic coat you would have to remove the PPF to repair.

I mainly went in because there is dime sized solvent mark on the hood. Looks like a crater on the hoods clear coat. But I did complain about how easy the paint chips while I was there.

You maybe right. Not sure just opted for ppf along with ceramic this time, but from everything I've read, PPF is applied after paint correction then followed up by ceramic coating.

A truck with 500 miles that was about to go in for ppf and coating. Which is frustrating since the chip would have never happened. It’s more than a truck to me. Everyone values things differently. But thanks for your opinion.

It’s the primer ironically that has that brown/gray hue underneath. No rust yet. One nice thing about AZ nothing rusts instantly.

My response was a bit of a knee-jerk, so apologies for the overreaction to your comments. I see good companies with excellent environmental records spending billions on environmental stewardship only to be continually crucified in the media, and it pisses me off.

I’m quite familiar with superfund sites. Love Canal is an interesting case. No disputing Hooker Chemical landfilled massive amounts of really nasty stuff and the Love Canal disaster destroyed the entire company. The thing people seem to forget is that Hooker Chemical was completely transparent about what they were doing and had a permit to do it. When they closed out the landfill they documented everything along with warnings about future development in the area. What did the city of Niagra do? They built a school and residential neighborhood directly on top of it with full knowledge of what lie beneath. Hooker made the city/school board sign a liability release to prevent future lawsuits because they knew what was going to happen. iirc, the contractor building the first school even dug up/damaged some of the 55gal drums while excavating for the footings.

Where is the condemnation of the city government and the school board? In my opinion there is much more blood on their hands than Hooker Chemical. Sorry for the rant...

This has been an interesting thread. Talking about environmental issues can be a hot button. WE all have a responsibility to do the right thing, industries, consumers, and yes governments. Like it or not, we are all in this together. On a lighter note, I do like my paint job on my truck.

Honestly it’s a chip, a small chip at the most. You’re going to be the ONLY one who knows it’s there unless you point it out.

Now granted I don’t have a brand new truck but it would fix it the issue. I’ve seen some brand new trucks out in west Texas that still have drive out tags line-x’d top to bottom

I am pretty sure this order is wrong. first, paint correction. second, ceramic coating. last, PPF. if you apply the ceramic coating over the PPF it won't adhere. it has to adhere to a hard surface. at least that has been my experience.

rant on about your new truck. its yours, you can't rant if you want. hell, I took delivery one night, drove it out of state the very next morning and got a chip and ding in the damn fender. I just chalked it up to being a truck I am going to use. dings and chips are gonna happen. I don't like PPF or ceramic coatings. so I live with whatever happens. I use to detail professionally, so as long as it's not too bad I can fix it.

and...THANK YOU for your service to our great country!

I don't know, I will clarify with my guy, he just did 40 cars for Barrett Jackson, GT3's, Lambos, GTRs, etc. not some dude in a garage so I trust him and his crew's work.

Thanks man, sorry about yours as well. Just needed to vent a bit and the timing right before PPF and ceramic. I know its not for everyone and I love detailing my cars too myself, but after a year in AZ I realize you need to take extra precaution with all the rocks, UV, etc. here. My poor 17's windshield, front end and rockers were peppered after 1.5 years.

My privilege and honor to serve!!! And thank you for allowing me and affording me the opportunity to use my GI bill here in July towards grad school.

maybe you can apply it over the PPF, I don't know 100% for sure. I have never done it that way. if your guy says it can be done, then it probably can. I haven't installed enough of it to know honestly. I have installed both, PPF and ceramic coatings, but never together. I would like to see it when you are done with it for sure. just so I know for future reference.
