Make sure you tell your Xpel installer to wrap the edge of the hood. A lot of these guys will just take shortcuts and not roll the edges to save time.

Thin paint is not just a Toyota issue these days, sadly you see this on American and German vehicles also.

Thanks man, he definately does, he will do the same for the door edges along the rockers, etc. I'm getting done in addition. He actually uses Suntek Ultra instead of XPEL Ultimate.

Quicksand is not metallic. It’s a solid color. Same with cement.

Update: I was wrong, cement is a metallic.

Sorry but you are very wrong with Cement. Do you own one or have actually seen it in person? Weird I have and own one...

My Cement Tacoma has tiny metallic flakes in it, it has to clean and sunny but they are there, they sparkle.

You’re right, cement is a metallic.

But you know what, you don’t have to be a dick. Yeah I’ve seen them up close.

Yeah cement is a metallic. Quicksand however is not.

So far yeah, white and quicksand are the only two that don’t have a second stage base/clear coat.

How far did you have to zoom in to get that chip in focus?
It’s on the edge of the hood I assume? Any paint is prone to chipping there. But to each his own, I understand both sides of the spectrum

When you look real close, do you see tiny spots? I can't tell from your pic but, and maybe I am wrong but it seemed the last time I looked it was superfine metallic mixed in. It takes either a flashlight or direct sun to see.
It's easy to tell if it has clear though. Find a spot and hit it with a bit of 1000 grit black sandpaper. If it leaves a white mark on the paper it has clear. If its quicksand color mark the no clear.

As our 3rd gen brother @PrimerTaco
alluded to earlier....since I own the truck and actually look at it every day...I can testify.....no metallic flake in quicksand.

You are absolutely correct with this. When I was purchasing my gen 3 I was dead set in quicksand.

The dealership had four in order on the line and not one was the same shade of quicksand. I was looking for a non premium trd or and the one they had looked too khaki. The one that looked good was a sport.

I asked the salesman what gives and he said all colors except Metallic have a single stage powdered paint with the CC mixed into it. So depending on variables as the computer spraying, factor..and other stuff the paint could have different shades.

I ended up with Mgm just because of the two stage paint and I got a killer deal.

But yea your post is correct.

 Cute little rock chip. Annoying timing, sure but as far as rock chips go, you got off easy. Every vehicle's paint will chip if a rock comes hurling at it. You're lucky it didnt cause a significant dent or shatter your windshield. Little touch up paint and you're good to go!
