A late model 4R MT would be a beast!

Interesting. Just curious, what problems did you have with the tranny?

I miss my FJ too...But the Tacoma can provide you lot of spaces that the FJ can't.

Oh yes! I believe the 4.0 in a runner is tuned for more power than the taco version.

Indeed, although 4Runner has a older engine, but that has more power and torque.

Let's see, infamous throw out bearing chirp X2, failed synchros, grindy 2 -3 upshift, and finally they swapped the tranny when it lost a gear at 25K miles. Sold it at 26k miles. Also the gearing is off by about half a gear in the manual, it never felt in range.

Other than that it had a brake TSB done because it squeaked in reverse lol, bulging fenders lol, and it ate windshields.

I still love the stupid thing though. I still look at them and wonder, but I got a ton of money for it when I sold it and I loved the ride of the thing.

It is a bit better in lower rpms, yes. But its pretty much done at 5k rpm. The tacos' 3.5 just keeps on going till the redline.

That sucks to hear. My 2007 is an MT and it's been great so far at 117k miles.

I check mine through the carfax site and its still out there. It lives in Virginia now and has over 240k miles on it lol. Someone else got the vehicle I was supposed to have, but that's ok. I like to think I had to work the kinks out of it. I just ran out of patience, and I had a shorter attention span back then I guess.

I'm still on my original one at 51K miles, but its getting pitted pretty bad, so I have mixed emotions about that.

    51k miles?! Shocking.

I replaced my first at 3k miles and at about 10k my second one got cracked. I dont care anymore about it, no way im shelling out another 200$ deductable for these windshields. I dont tailgate at all as well.

Ill rock my cracked windshield till i cant see anymore haha!

The ride was light years better in the FJ, not even close. I will say my Sand Storm FJ felt tighter as well.

    Still stock completely capable!
Can’t wait to get a FJ as my play vehicle. I love my tacoma but want to build something for pure off-road fun and I’ve decided the FJ is the vehicle for the job! I want both! Always admired the FJ but I think the Tacoma is a better daily driver and if I had to pick one would be the Tacoma forsure!
