I hit the inflation calculator to check what a $9548 4x4 Truck from 1987 should cost today (new price).

$9548 in 1987 is equivalent to $17,800 today. The most base 4x4 I see on Toyota.com is a 4x4, 4cyl, 5spd manual for $20,220. I suppose the price difference can be attributed to this being a mid-sized truck now, not a compact.
