You know all the issues you hear about on here, from whistling noises to weak leaf springs and everything in between? I haven't had a single one. Nada. Zilch. Plus my truck gets 20mpg all day long and has since the day I bought it. I'm actually rounding down too because I regularly average 20.1-20.7. Best I've ever done was 21.7. No squeaks, no rattles, not a thing I can even nitpick about.

You looking at manual or auto? The 6sp in the nissan, imho, is better than toyotas. If your looking at autos, then you shouldnt have any major issues with the taco.

You're not going to find any major issues with the current tacomas. Some wind noise, slight wheel shake, maybe driveline vibration but no major mechanical issues. If you plan on hauling a lot of stuff in the bed, you'll probably want to upgrade the leafs...probably the biggest downside.

I strongly prefer a manual. However, I keep hearing and reading a lot of poor reviews about them.

being a former Nissan owner...I am glad I switched over to a Taco, the cargo rack in the bed is far superior than Nissan makes and it is easier to find aftermarket parts for the Tacoma....thought i would miss the nismo too....NOPE! nuff said

Really? The other day I found myself being a little jealous of the bed rails on the floor of the bed on my buddy's Frontier.

Mine has been "Rock Solid" for the past 4.5 years, the only issue I had was the yellow daytime lights in the headlight assembly melted the inside plastic and had a burnt color. I was just out of warranty when I noticed this problem, Dealer agreed to install new headlight assemblies but socked me $250.00 for the labor. Far as mechanical you can't get a better small pick-up truck. You will not be disappointed with a Tacoma. I recently considered trading up to a 2013, but my truck is no different than a new one,(except mileage of course).

Okay I just picked up my new 13 DCLB Sport last Monday. I have the whistle but I think it is coming from the mirror /signal light area but is isn't bad enough to complain about. I have the smog pump noise when I turn off the engine but the dealership warned me about that when I go it. I really rarely hear it because I have the music playing all the time. This is my 3rd Taco and the only real problems I have ever had were self inflicted.

My 2013 DCLB V6 has a low pitch squeal associated with the A\C blower motor at highway speeds, around 70-75 MPH. It stops when I turn off the blower motor. Almost seems like a pressure drop issue from outside to inside the cab. Will have it checked if it gets worse. :)

Zero issues other than, the weak elocker that lost teeth about every 9-12 months until I replaced it with a 8.4 with ARB, noisy as hell even after putting sound proofing material (when you close the doors they sound better now but the cab is still very noisy), door panel details squeaking, front brakes are weal, back brakes suck, the sheet metal is thin as aluminum foil, the crumple zone cracks, the crack in the rear of the cab, the LCA unwrapping from the front end, crappy gas mileage, the front bumper mount ripping off the frame - other than that this truck is great.

I have an 07 TRD Sport access cab auto.

Let's see.... the windshield washer motor failed the day I picked it up in 07 when it was new. Replaced under warranty.

Three of my OEM stock alloy wheels had bubbled up, replaced under warranty (3/36).

Radiator cap leaked. Replaced twice under warranty (3/36). I've replaced it once more (Stant).

I got the TSB leaf springs after I owned the truck for 6 months.

Front mud flaps had ripped where they mounted to the body (from winter snow buildup). Replaced this past spring.

Replaced OEM battery after 5 years....

That's it....Hope it continues to impress me for another 4-5 years.

Issues i had with my 06. Blower motor chirp(didn’t bother me), Temp./compass in overhead console burned out.(easily fixed with a little solder), Steering felt a little shakey on gravel roads(i believe there was a tsb for it) was a easy fix but i didn’t bother. Some say the rear leafs were weak. Mine would haul 500 lbs with only bottoming out on large bumps. So i didn’t bother with fixing it. Overall it was a good truck with only very minor issues. No truck is perfect. I really enjoyed that Tacoma so i bought another one. My new truck so far has the slight whistle from the grill or windshield area and the smog pump noise when the engine is turned off. These are very minor issues and i’m not bothered by them. I usually have the music cranked anyways! :headbang:

20mpg on a 4wd? Are you driving lots of highway miles? That's impressive...

4wd honestly doesn't impact mpg that much. I can get 20 mpg if I drive 65-70 mph and don't romp on the gas pedal. Most days I get 18-19 combined, and that includes the Mon/Wed/Fri that I get stuck in Atlanta traffic for an hour and a half morning and afternoon. I drive 70-75 mph average on the highway on normal, no traffic days.

Some other people mentioned the emissions pump wind down noise, which I hardly would categorize as an issue. Its a normal function for the truck.

Only issue I have had thus far is the whistling noise, which for me, was not caused by the windshield, and like others, was only a hood seal effect. 1/4" dripline inserted in the hood weather seals cleared that up.

Most of the Tacoma's so-called issues can be chalked up to nitpicking since there are no other major problems and it is an overall solid truck.

2010 4WD V6 AUTO DC OFF ROAD: No noises, no problems, awesome truck, unstoppable and unbreakable (so far)! Only 15-19 mpg (city to highway), in CA. Have 53,000 miles on it. (Toyota dealership service) has just replaced brake pads for the second time... so they last about 25,000 miles for me... and no, I don't drive with my foot on the brake. If that is the only issue (soft pads), then I am happy. This is my third new 4WD Off Road Tacoma (2001 with 136,000 miles at trade in, 2005 with 102,000 miles at trade in, 2010 with 53,000 miles after 3.5 years)...
