So I've been chasing a coolant smell for 3 weeks. There are no indications on the driveway or in the cab. I looked on the engine, the radiator, the water pump, and heater core connection. No indications. No indications it coming from over fill tank either. Im stumped.

Cylinder head gaskets will make this smell, also seeping hoses, so you gotta check for crusty pink.

The dummy temp gauge is in the normal position, in the middle.

You should do a pressure test with a coolant system pressure tester. If you don’t own one, or know someone with one, you should be able to rent one from a chain auto parts store.

Use common sense and don’t open the radiator cap hot. Make sure the radiator is full to the top. Don’t over pressurize, 15 psi is enough. Using an inspection mirror and flashlight is helpful.

Check your water pump weep hole, if there is one?
This is a different application but had something like this on my old T-100. It was a failing seal between the aluminum body of the radiator and where the plastic tanks were clamped onto the sides. It was just weeping a little and would leave a drop on the ground when it was really cold.
You might have to pull the fan shroud and skid plate. Roll around under it with a good flashlight. I find it's better to do this in a darker garage so the light does you more good.

I havent noticed any coolant level change. Will look into pressure testing the system.

Check overflow hose. I needed to add a clamp to mine to stop a small leak. Really easy.

No updates as of yet. I am enjoying driving my Evo X while on holiday vacation. I will get back on the search when I return.

I was seeing very small changes in the coolant level in the overflow tank. I decided to replace the original 14 year old radiator cap, after which the level in the overflow tank has been steady.
