So I recently purchased a brand new 2019 Tacoma SR access cab 4 cylinder. 3 days after buying it, I had to take it back to the dealership and I’m curious if its common for others to have these problems.
    1. There doors have to be slammed in order to close completely.
    2. There’s a major rattling noise coming from the back passenger side of the cab when hitting a bump or stopping.
    3. The cover behind the steering wheel is loose.
    4. While my new truck is being worked on, the dealership put me in a used double cab 4 cylinder from 2017 I believe and I’ve noticed a huge power difference in it and my new truck.
Anyone have/had the same issues or any thoughts?

I would think if the dealer let u have the truck for 3 days (free) they must be trying to sell it bad for some reason ive never had a car dealer allow me to take a vehicle home until I purchased it.

It’s called an extended test drive. I’ve had a few dealers from different brands offer me an extended test drive

He brought it back to the dealer after 3 days for the issues he explained.

I’ll edit the language in the initial post so my message will come across a little more clearly.

Took my 2017 home for the weekend prior to my purchase.

When you say power difference...do you mean the 2017 had more power than the 2019, or vice versa?

The back doors on my crew cab do require a bit more umph to close all the way. Especially when all the windows are up. I thought they would loosen up over time. To this point they remain the same. They don't get used much either.

As for the rattles....you learn to live with a few of them.

Yes, the 2017 feels like it has more power than my 2019 and the 2017 I’m in is a double cab while mine is an access cab.

Also the 2017’s doors close with ease without having to slam them. I noticed the doors on the 2019 TRD also close easily when I test drove it.

My last access cab doors banged over bumps, it was the latch and striker that needed adjustment

    1. Tacomas are tight...there are extra seals between door and body panels, like old VW bugs. Compare that to competition.
    2. Rattling may be the jack in the compartment below the right rear passenger seat.
    3. Cover is warrantee.

Did they do the ECU fix on your 2019? To help with the shifting?

I also bought a tacoma sr 4 cyl but 2018. Yes, I have to nearly slam the door to close it and I tell the passengers always to close the door again because they didnt close it all the way. I got it this way and just accept it.

My AC front doors take a little more gusto to get closed than my GTI doors did. I even checked the alignment of the latches to make sure everything lined up, looked fine.
