I bought a Honda Fit as a commuter car as I get 28-31MPG highway and my motorcycle when I'm running late.
My commute is super short but I still benefit from having the commuter car and only drive the truck when I want to!

I tried to continue to live in Goleta for a while after taking a job in Oxnard about 16 years ago. That drive while scenic and which might be half of what you're thinking about began to suck real quick. Fridays were a nightmare on my clutch leg.

SB to DTLA? That sounds miserable. Covid is over so traffic is back in LA. Good luck to you sir!

This weirdly was incredibly helpful because you reminded me how long traffic can take just getting out of SB and down to Oxnard/ventura.

I think everyone has talked some sense in to me. If I decide to move to an office in Southern California it should probably be to Carlsbad office rather than DTLA and commute from Northern SD area to carlsbad.

^ BINGO! That would be more of your vibe imho. It's a win, win on all levels for you.

    Cheers!

I have a job opportunity coming up that would have me have a long commute (75 miles each way) temporarily until the facility is commissioned.

I would say consider getting an electric vehicle to save on fuel cost, and something with a self-driving feature so that you're not overly stressed with driving and letting the AI do most of the work.

Other than the Tesla, the Chevy Bolt even has self drive. There are a few gas engine vehicles that have it like the Cadillac and a Tahoe next year.

Although I didn't answer your question about traffic, I wanted you to be informed about how a eV with self-drive can make you time on the road much better.
