Compatibility of a 95-00 catalytic to a 01-04 model

I have the dreaded P0420 code. I have been looking at options if it really is the cat that needs to be replaced (not certain yet). A local wrecker has many '95-'00 Tacoma's from the frame rust buy back program a few years back with lower mileage than my truck. They say the flanges changed between '00 and '01 but might be able to make it compatible by cutting it out behind the flange. I will then have to weld the pieces back together (not me but a muffler shop). Does anyone see any other problems with this Frankenstein approach? They are selling the used cats for $150.

Nope. Just installed a complete Walker system.
