I've been looking for a used shell, particularly an aluminum contractors shell, and have little luck finding one for first gen.

I've bee told that sometimes ranger shells fit? Or even Second gen with little mod.
What about Toyota pickups (before there were tacoma)?

Anyone have any insight on other truck shells that would fit a first gen extra cab?

I don't know about Rangers shell fitting, but you could look up their bed size and see if it's similar.

Second Gens have a different bed spec and I believe those shells will be wider.

The first gen Tacoma beds are similar to the third gen Pickups, but the Tacoma's have a taller cab height. The older Pickup shells usually don't have a brake light. I've attached examples of that a Pickup shell will look on a first gen Tacoma.

I've own & use a Glasstite camper shell on my truck for about 20 years. No longer made, but can be found for cheap used. Make sure the windows & hardware are working properly. If I were to buy an aluminum camper top shell, I would buy a Caravan camper shell. Check out Caravan camper shell: http://www.caravancamper.com/

    Gotcha, thanks for the help.

Love the caravan campers, but afraid the price or a new one would end up being near the cost of my truck!

I have an ARE DCU shell from a ranger. Its a hair wide in the front (1/4" sticks out either side), and its a little bit short lengthwise (fixed with a garage door seal). Other than that it fits pretty well.
