    Hello all,
Been lurking for awhile but now need some specific advise. I pick up my 2016 TRD Off-Road in December. Tuesday night while slowly pulling into the garage I had my brakes fail. Pedal went all the way to the floor with the resistance of a wet noodle. Stopped the truck with the parking brake before hitting my work bench. After putting the truck into park the brakes are now fine. Called service and they said the truck was unsafe to drive and to have it towed in. Wednesday I get a call from the dealer saying they cannot duplicate the problem but will have a regional Toyota tech look at it. Tech looked at the truck today, tested all the systems, pressures and mechanical components. Still no answers and they say the truck is safe. I don't know what to do.... I no longer trust the truck to keep me safe or anyone else in it. There is no way I would put a child or loved one inside as I can no longer guarantee the brakes will work. I called my sales man and he is going to speak to the general manager about what we can do. I am going to test drive a used 2015 TRD off road double cab when I get there. Am I over reacting? Would you feel safe in this truck?

Wouldn't say you're overreacting, brakes are kind of important! Well, I guess stopping is what's important.

Parking brake worked in your garage at low speed but if it happened on the roadway at normal speeds and normal driving environments it could be a life or death situation, so I'd say no - not overreacting at all.

I'd not trust that truck either, even if they said "we fixed it," it'd be in my head any time I went to hit the brake pedal.

Hope it works out for you somehow, sounds like you're going to lose something either way - either trust in the truck or money getting rid of it.

It is an auto with the crawl control. I believe is was an electronic failure in that system that caused this. 3800 miles... Planned on keeping this truck for years.

Email the General Manager and Service Manager. Ask that the Service Manager could drive your truck home for a couple of nights. Confirm by email that their Insurance would cover him while in your truck.

I am willing to loose money if it means I stay alive. My thoughts exactly on the safety concern. No way the parking brake is going to stop me going 70 on the freeway in an emergency nor will it stop me fast enough at 25 if a kid would jump into the road.

and I thought the tail gate latch being broken on my 15 within 250 miles was bad :( wow... yep I'm not trusting that truck until I see some real proof it's fixed. and how exactly do they try and duplicate it? our Kia sorento was stalling on the highway, in traffic etc. The stealerships version of duplicating was letting it idle in the parking lot for 6 hours. Told to drive it to Canada from Florida your good to go.... didn't make it home; 10 miles. 3k in "repairs" later... traded in hoping it wouldn't stall on the way to do that.... Sorry OP...lemon

I'd say if you don't trust it or feel safe in it and they say "no problem found" do
what you think is right for YOU. Maybe it was a one time thing and maybe it wasn't.

Hope it works out for you.

I believe the OR brake controller is vacuum boosted when you are not using MTS or CC, so the electrical system doesn't do anything when you are driving normally

    can anyone confirm this?

At least they didn't say "that's just how it's built" which is their usual fallback.

Wow that's very strange. All modern vehicles have dual brake circuits so if one circuit fails (ruptured brake line, etc.) the second circuit should provide enough braking to stop the vehicle. If it was an issue with the ABS/electronic brake control the pedal would still be somewhat firm and wouldn't go all the way to the floor.

Lost bong under the brake pedal. You thought it went all the way to the floor, you were high.

Wow, dunno, that's not good. All newish vehicles have so much electronics you'll never know.

That is what makes no sense to me. I should have still had some kind of brakes. I had both feet on the peddle to the floor and the truck was accelerating. Parking brake is what stopped the truck. I didn't see any lights on while it happened and by the time I looked the brake light was on but that was due to the parking brake. The peddle felt like the master had blown apart...

Bad master cylinder and/or linkage is the only thing that makes sense to me.

Maybe there is air in the master cylinder because it wasn't bled properly or has a leak?

Dealer said no leaks were found. Master and the linkage tested okay. The only thing I know is I trust this truck as much as my cheating EX wife. This truck might also be another EX of mine.

I saw another posting like 3 weeks ago someone was selling their 3rd gen due to brake issues. Let me see if I can find the thread.
