No reason to get frustrated with questions as those can lead to answers. Just got off the phone with the GM at the dealer. The field service technician was not able to duplicate the problem. The truck is deemed safe to drive at this point. The field service tech said it could have been the slow speed and the conditions as Swimmer suggested based off the 2nd Gen issues. I am going to call Toyota Corporate an update the case. Right now I do have more confidence and am willing to take my truck back unless Toyota Corporate has another suggestion. The tech explained any electronic malfunction in the new brake system will set a code off. If it was a mechanical failure the problem would still be present. I think I will be moving my work bench just in case I need the extra room to stop.....

I would spend a few hours trying to duplicate the problem if possible.

Keep a paper trail of all your communications with Toyota and the dealer. If this were to return and the consequences of a subsequent brake failure are much more severe (like it causes an accident where you are injured or you injure someone else) at least you have the documentation to help with any possible litigation.

It would be useful to contact Toyota/your dealership again via email spelling out step by step in clear language (have someone else read it) as to exactly what happened (i.e. circumstance of brake failure), what they did to investigate the issue, and their final conclusions. Then ask them if what you wrote is correct or not.

    You have to protect yourself.

Not sure if you took my response ass being a smart ass, and you're responding that way or not. Either way, I wasn't. But I just don't see a need to read a whole thread about another generation of truck when it could be something totally different, considering we're talking different vehicles, also even if it were the same model etc.. Although I see where you're coming from trying to gather intel from other sources to come to a conclusion. But The first post of OP was enough for me to not trust the truck. Kinda like a cheating girlfriend, you just really never trust her again. That's just my opinion.

Also not sure if when you said some people posting/hysteria, you may have been including me.. If so, I'm not.

And you brought up your motorcycle, tell me what you have gathered from it doing it, and how it applies to this.. Have you solved the mystery? Or do you not think it's one? You never answered.

It relates because its the same situation. ABS system with very low/no traction brakes applied get a short initial braking response and then nothing.

Brake lever (in this case) goes nearly back to the grip. Why does this happen? Because in the motorcycle case the front wheel (only braking wheel for me in most instances) is up in the air over a bump and doesn't start spinning again so the ABS system wants to keep pressure off the pads. Then you get a very crappy response from the brakes as you continue over bumps and the ABS can't regulate well.

Because I am bringing a different opinion, based on my experience and other's experience (see 2nd gen thread) that doesn't involve panic, blame and, hysteria it makes me a troll. Gotcha.

Toyota Corporate has changed their tune from last night.... My options right now are to take the truck or try for a buy back/ truck replacement. Being a one time occurrence I know that is not going to happen. After reading up more on the 2nd Gen issue I can not say for sure it is the same but it does have a very close fit. I have everything documented and am willing to take the truck back.

Dealers are independent of Toyota Motor Corp. They don't have the power to fire a GM of a store

And to all the people bringing up the Ford problem, that's like comparing apples to assholes. 2 completely different things. For the people worry this might affect their 2016 Tacoma, stop worrying. Just because 1 forum user had an intermittent problem doesn't mean your Tacoma or the rest, are or will be affected. I hate how one person has an issue and a majority of people think, or assume they will have the same issue. And it's no better when the 2nd gen retards chime in and bash Toyota and the new gen Tacoma. Guess what morons, you drive a Toyota too! They talk crap about how it's basically the same truck. Well if your calling it a POS and it's basically the same truck with different body panels and interior panels, then I guess your second Gen is a POS too!

End of rant . Now I'll sit back and  and wait for the :crapstorm:

The dealer has been great in all of this. I have no complaints with them at all. Smart Motors. Gary is my salesman and I highly recommend him!

I don't see how it compares to OPs truck. Unless maybe he has a jump going into his garage and got some air time. And in that case MAYBE there's some comparison, even considering we're talking moto X:bikewhoops: vs 2016 :mudding:Tacoma, but you might be onto something. I don't know. However he said he was slowly pulling in, and even if he had a jump, I'm thinking no air, bc not enough speed, probably bc a wall at front of garage, and needed to go slow so as not to hit it, but he would've hit it bc no brakes, but he thought fast and used emergency.

So we're back to zero again. Mystery unsolved.

I never said or implied OP's tires lost contact with the ground. The comparison was a zero traction event, lack of wheel rotation event. His situation and others (gen2) was snow/ice, the motorcycle was no ground contact.

Do you need to know, or care?
Good luck OP. Been following this thread closely and just want to say thanks for posting your issue and the insight from you and all others in this thread. I had a Gen 2, but never had this issue, now with a Gen 3 I've learned a little more about the way the truck may act.

Break pedal going to the floor for whatever reason, is something that would freak me out. Good reaction to grabbing that E-brake! IMOP having that handle by the shifter is better than the foot one, easier to modulate and quicker to react to, if required.
