Interesting. Now When I am pulling into the garage I am more feathering the brake. Never fully on or off the brake. I will have to do some more research on the hydro assist.

    OP,
Though not desirable it seems like your experience was a normal characteristic of the vehicle and conditions. While your experience is useful information for many of us to be aware of it seems clear your vehicle did not have a complete brake system failure. As I stated before in post 143, making a claim that your truck's brakes completely failed is a serious accusation against an automaker and if it did not happen it would be malicious , at least in character to perpetuate that rumor. Respectfully, I suggest you delete or lock this thread and start a new thread which describes your experience and this braking characteristic, like the Gen2 thread, so people can be aware of it without having to read through all the noise in this thread and so that people aren't given the false pretense of the thread title.

I disagree completely. My brakes did fail. It is interesting though that you keep bring up the 2nd gen and that in certain situations, at slow speed the ABS has trouble recognizing the situation. With my testing last night it would seem to me that Toyota corrected that problem by programming the ABS to not activate until you reach a speed greater than 5 mph.

No I did not. I was asked if I had traveled at high speed before the "incident" happened.

i read all 12 pages and have to ask
-"if" the issue is the same as the 2nd gen as it relates to wheel speed, sensing a slide, etc why hasn't it been fixed from the 2nd gen?
-"if" the problem is not the same as the 2nd gen and the hydro-boost and accumulator pressure is the issue why hasn't that been updated/fixed?

at no point is it acceptable to lose all braking and have the pedal hit the floor and require use of the e-brake to stop. never. not all consumers are savy or have the thought process to yank the e-brake if this happened to them.

Here's a short story. Wife and I use to own a 2001 corolla, she has complained about the brakes doing that several times at slow speed while slowing down. I told her it was her high heels that she wears. I drive the car 99% of the time and the brakes on the car has never done that.

Oh no, another tough guy making meme threats. If your not here to help the OP or to bring some knowledge to the table, then shut your mouth and go back to your second gen forums.

You're confusing a simple and friendly tip of advice to have a continuous membership here on TW vs. a "tough-guy threat"..... dumazz.

Um, it's not. If you recall, I was addressing you, not the OP.

Your best bet would be to hang out in the Ferd forums..... I believe you'd fit in well there given your history on TW.

    Have a great day

Just because I'm not a current Tacoma owner doesn't mean I'm not welcome here. I've owned a Tacoma in the past and I'll looking to maybe go back to the midsize platform and Tacoma would be my choice. TW is for owners and enthusiasts.

    Good day to you sir!

The master cylinder is the pump that produces brake fluid pressure. All the other systems working with the pressure are eithor amplfying this pressure or redirecting the fluid or pressure flow. The peddle should never go to the floor. It may not work in time with your application or the peddle gets extremely hard to apply in a booster failure.

If it was my truck with this issue I would be asking the dealer to professionaly reverse bleed the brake hydraulic system. If after this is done you feel confident in your braking power go on and live your life. If not then the next step I would ask for is a new master cylinder.

In order for you to loose complete peddle loss, you have to have a leak in the system or fluid bypass in the master cylinder. A huge air bubble workin its way back through your master cylinder could cause peddle failure. The brake system is still supposed to work partially in a failure. If the front brake fails the rear brakes should still work. Same if the rear brakes fail the front brakes should still work. The offroad model has awsome brakes. Test drive a truck same as yours to see if your brakes are as good as the truck your driving.

Yeah that was my line of thinking also.

MadisonTaco - can you post some pics of your master cylinder setup? I just want to look at how it's set up in the new trucks.
