I'm looking at redoing the entire system in my '07 Taco. Here is what I am looking at putting in HU and speakers:

    Kenwood DNX8120
Image Dynamic XS69 Components for front doors
Image Dynamic CTX65 6.5 for rear doors
    2 x Image Dynamic 8" 2ohm Subs

I listen to mostly metal bands and would rather have quality hard hitting bass rather than "thumpy" bass that would be utilized for rap, etc...

Guy installing my system has suggested the 8" over the 10" b/c of airspace, etc... and believes they will actually sound better based on the type of music I listen to and the sound I am looking for with this system. I would love to know your thoughts on whether to go with 8"s or 10"s?

Also, anyone that can speak of the Image Dynamic speakers? Quality, etc... would be greatly appreciated.

This is costing some money, so I would like to hear opinions. Thanks again.

hmmm well im running a 10" in my truck sounds really good hit really hard no components speakers still running stock will upgrade later i personally think a 10" would be better for you. speakers sound like a good choice with shallow subs they use little space to begin with so thats why i went that route

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
There is no issue using am 8" for bass frequencies, especially in light of the mounting depth issues we face behind the seats. You are going to sacrifice some of the lowest of notes, but for your listening the quick response from an 8" is nice.

I think a 10" is very doable though, and I really like the way mine sound.

You will not beat the quality or sound of the Image Dynamics gear. You are going to LOVE the XS69's!!!!! I run them in my competition car and they sound superb, keep in mind the 6x9's have the same cone area as an 8", I think you would be better off with a 10" or two to really dig down deep in the audio spectrum though. FYI, the XS69's love power. I run 300wrms on EACH midbass in my SQ car and plan on running 320wrms to each in my Tacoma once I get around to installing them. I will then be running 100wrms on the tweets. I would be more than happy to discuss this with you over the phone if you like. pm me if you want to for a phone number.

IMO most 8's sound like 8's including dare I say the Image Dynamics 8's  so my vote is for a pair of 10's such as the IDQ version 2's which you have more than enough airspace available for. :)

Alright, I finally got around to putting in my HU, the DNX8120, my 6x9's (Image Dynamic XS69 Components), and amp (Alpine PDX 4.150). All I can say is WOW! This thing jamz! Sound is crystal clear and as loud as you can stand it.

I want to thank atsaubrey for talking to me about the speakers and amp. He helped me make the right decision. If anyone needs info on a quality sound system, then you should talk to atsaubrey.

I also need to thank Mr. Marv. He made my door mounts and it is quality stuff. I would recommend, like so many others, that you get Mr. Marv to build mounts, boxes, etc... for your system. His stuff is made specific for your application and attention to detail is obvious. The price is reasonable as well. You won't be disappointed.

I'm still planning to add the 2 x Image Dynamic 10" v.3 2ohm Subs and an Alpine PDX 1.1000 in the near future. Just have to find that money tree again. The system sounds great, but it lacks that rib cage rattling bass I'm looking for when the bass drums hit. I can only imagine what this will sound like with these installed.

Anyway, I'll throw some pics up one day, but I think everyone has seen pics of this HU installed, and I didn't take pictures of the speakers going in  I'll snap some next time I take the door panel off. And some pics of the subs going in as well.
