My wife's 2014 Honda will not lock when the key fob is in the car and it's manually locked. The 2024 Tacoma locks with the key fob in the truck. I have a spare key in a lock box for this situation but was wondering if this is normal or did I get the 'special' one?

Yes...push button start...it's a third gen...is this a standard non-feature of the 3rd gen Tacoma's? If the fob is in the truck, it will lock if the door lock is manually pressed at the driver door? Or is there a problem with my fob/ tech settings?

If your truck is a 2024 it’s a 4th gen. What does the owners manual say about FOB and lock performance based on location?

why are you using the internal lock button? closing the door and pressing the 'nub' area on the door handle will not lock the truck with the fob in the truck, and it will angrily beep at you.

You can put a fob to sleep and lock it in the car by holding the lock button on the fob and pressing the unlock twice. We do this on our 2023 Tacoma and 2024 Lexus to save batteries and allows my wife to lock her purse in the cars when needed.

So to your response Soundman98, if the fob is in the truck, and I manually lock the truck at the door, the truck locks and there is no warning. My question is this normal. Per your experience, sounds like I got the special one that locks. Sound about right?

Does it stay locked when you close the locked door? Better question, can't you just grab the door handle and open the door since the fob is in the truck?

I’d have to test it, but going just off my poor memory; I believe I can leave my fob in the vehicle and press the lock button inside the door without any beeps or anything. However if I close the locked door, it will unlock and yell at me.
Again I could be completely wrong. I’ll have to try after work

Does manually lock mean you use the key to lock the door?

I’ve not yet tried to lock my keys in the truck, so I cannot immediately answer your question. How do you do it? Is it possible to use the switch on the inside of the door (which I never use) before you close it? I suppose if I had two keys with me, I could leave one inside and use the other to lock the door. Can you explain the steps?

I have not heard anything ask this question before.

CAVEAT: I don’t have push button start

Apparently I'm the only re-?-d that's ever locked my truck with the fob in it. And yes, to answer one of the posters, I would use the fob to lock / unlock the truck like I do on every other car I've owned / used but the fob only works half the time. So I stopped using it cause it is'nt reliable.

No, you're the 2nd. I always turn my fob off, because I'm weird. Turned it off, left it in the cup holder headed to the gym. I come out can see it plain as day. The wife did a drive by to unlock it.

I have a question for whoever can answer. with auto truck start.
If I leave the fob in the cab and use my spare one in the house. Will it start my truck with fob in cab. Just wondering cause I have not tried it yet.

Yes. I have done that several times. The truck will still shut off after you open the door.

O.P. on mine when I leave my spare fob in the truck, the only way I can lock it is by pushing "lock" on my other fob.

I have not tried on '24 models.

But on 3rd gen Tacomas, so far I know:

You put fob in the truck and lock via lock button on armrest but it will unlock because of security/safety feature.

If you want to leave fob in the truck but you want to lock the truck with fob inside, then use the key to manually lock it.

Yes you can start the truck with fob but it will be shut off if you open the door because it's a security feature that thief can not steal your truck to take off. Plus it has the timer which it can be turn off about 15 mins. If you don't want this, then you need to get in the truck to start it up then get out of the truck so you close it then lock it manually, that way, it will not activate the timer.
