What's maddening is the insane price difference between a Tacoma winch bumper and a Jeep Wrangler winch bumper. I'm going to pull the trigger on either a new Taco TRD or a new Jeep Gladiator in a couple of weeks and the thousands of dollars in cheaper mods for the Jeep is a serious consideration.

I want to run 35's with decent approach and departure angles front and rear. With the Jeep, that's $1000 for two bumpers and no suspension mods. For the Taco, it's $4000 in mods.

I love Toyotas, but man do they make it hard to make them more capable.

Umm, your forgetting the fact that the Jeep Gladiator is a lot more than a few thousand dollars.... Like tens of thousands more.

    Good luck

The jeep Gladiator Willys Edition I was looking at is $44k brand new. The Taco I'm buying is $43k.

Anyone running the Ironman Raid bumper?? My top pick so far as I can probably reuse my Cali Raised 32" dual row lightbar.

OP, great post, thanks! Ive been looking at bumpers recently, so this is a great summary.

Related to the ARB bumpers, i saw a video where the creator talked quite a bit about the importance of a bumper being airbag compatible. I have never heard of or considered this. Is that something that other bumper makers do and advertise? I have not noticed it up until now.

    My guess is no.
Many that make rear high clearance rear bumpers that incorporate a hitch don’t even rate the hitch capacity…..too much $$$$$ for testing.

Anyone with a Demello and low hoop, have you tried to remove your grille?

I tried to remove mine to make it easier to install the Warn wireless module when they finally made it available and there wasn’t enough space to pull it forward/off.

I guess if I really have to I might cut the tabs and see if that’ll work…..if the time comes.

just a bonus bummer with this one.

Was in South Africa and heard a story from a reliable source about a Hilux with an ARB front bumper that struck a donkey in the bush at high speed. Other than blood and what-not, there was no appreciable damage. Thinking of going that route on my Gen 3 due to the deer where I live. Any input?

It’s really personal preference, many people buy cheap poorly made bumpers, sliders, etc and love them.

I know ARB makes good products but I don’t like the way they look on tacomas. They look slightly too big like it’s made for an f150.

Please advise and excuse me if this is not appropriate use of this thread. I have an idea I am kicking around. I want a front bumper with a winch, and a better approach angle. I want to be able to return my vehicle to stock, should I need to sell it. And I think it just looks good stock, more or less.

I want to get one of those bumpers that basically replaces the lower-middle part of the front bumper cover and gains you a winch. The same style as a CBI Covert, for example:
    https://cbioffroadfab.com/product/3rd-generation-tacoma-covert-series-front-bumper/

What I am kicking around is this - Since some amount of cutting is involved for so many of the bumper style I am considering, I may buy a ~$200 replacement bumper cover, cut that up and reinforce it a little bit.
    https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem...bmodel=&extra1=&extra2=&filter=()&location=pd:,

My question is - anyone have any tips on ways to reinforce the bumper? I could see it flopping around a lot if its cut up.
I was thinking of scouring parts of the inside really rough, and using some epoxy and scrap plastic or something. Or maybe some fabric sheets and resin - IDK if that necessarily means fiberglass or not.....

This is something similar to what I have in mind:
