The other day I was driving home with my 8 mo old in the car seat and the seat belt let the attachment and seat slide over to the middle . The seat belt appears to work, but it won't hold a cat seat. It's one reason I just traded my f150 for this taco. Very dissappointed in the lack of attachments for car seat in this truck.
    Anyone have suggestions.
    09 access cab.

Are you in an access cab?

My truck handles a car seat fine but there are a couple things you need to do in order to get it right. If it is an access cab then there is a piece of plastic under the headrest in the back seat that pulls off and you can anchor there.

Also, with all car seats it is just good practice to attach the seat with the regular seat belt and pull the belt all the way out and let it pull back in.. If you pull it all the way out it will lock the seatbelt from letting out any slack. Then just yank every bit of the slack you can out of the seat belt until it is nice and snug.

    I hope that helps

Oh yea and one more thing. I didn't know this at all but when my daughter was first born my wife (as most new mother's are usually paranoid about every little thing) had someone help her install the car seat that was trained to do that. He told us that the anchor points, while a novel idea and not really a bad idea, are not near as secure as the seat belts simply because they are not reinforced and engineered as well as seat belts. So the anchor points are merely for "added" safety and not designed to be used alone as the anchor.

    Again, Hope this helps

Why would I want a mini van when toyota makes a truck :eek:

You get a mini van .:D

Dangerdave I use the seat belt and it slips thru the attachment. The anchors are not an option with this car seat which is brand new. A Chicco .. I'm not sure how I can attach it, if so it's not obvious to me. I appreciate your help.

Ainokea- because I can't afford one, there are NONE in my area , and especially no 5 spd in my area, everyone wants one so no availability and I need the bed space for "things".

    correct

    incorrect

LATCH is equally as safe as seat belts, and the engineering behind it is very specific and well done. They are designed to be used alone, and NOT with a seat belt at all.

OP, Contact your local police or fire department or visit the website to find a CPS Certified installer in your area. They can help show you the best way to secure the seat properly

You must be doing something wrong because my car seat is rock solid. Like dangerdave said, make sure you pull the seat belt all of the way out then slowly let it back in until you hear faint clicks, then secure the car seat.

While this is very true information is used correctly, the latch system has a harness weight limit of roughly 40 lbs depending on manufacturer. So, while Dangerdave's post on the issue contains some truth, there is no reason not to use such a wonderful system so long as it is used within it's designed limits. I have found it far easier to secure a car seat properly using the latch system, using a seatbelt can be downright frustrating depending on the vehicle.

I certainly second your suggestion to have a qualified professional asses the installation and correct any issues according to their recommendation. I can proudly say that my interpretation of our local regulations and the seat manufacturer's instructions proved correct after hours of head scratching. I must say the peace of mind I had when my wife had my installation inspected was well worth the few minutes it took for the inspection.

I agree. More is better. They need to add anchor points at the passenger rear. I have a 2011 access cab and the anchors are only on the driver side rear passenger and shotgun. Who the hell is going to use the car seat directly behind the driver seat. You have to scoot all the way forward and cram.

are you sure? Every vehicle manufactured after 2002 has to have LATCH points in a corresponding number to the number of designated seating positions for adults

3 rear seats requires 2 lower anchor and 1 top tether or 3 lower anchers

2 rear seats requires 2 lower anchors

google FMVSS 225 for more on federal guidelines for vehicle manufacturers and child seats

I think yall misunderstood what I was trying to say. LATCH is a good addition to the safety belt but was never intended to replace attaching the seat. It was meant for support.

Now, let me say I could be wrong. I am solely going on what the child seat professional taught my wife when installing the seat the first time.

I was a certified safety seat installer right out of the Fire Academy...yes....they actually sent NHTSA to certify all 30 of us. *eyeroll*

Anchors or LATCH are just as safe as safety belts. I have to kids, a 6 year old and a 15 month. I personally use the safety belts for all of our car seat needs. You never want to use both.

When attaching a car seat in the back on the passenger side you use the flip up tray below the seat if they are still on the 2nd gens. Put the car seat in and use your knee to compress it into the seat. Pull the seatbelt all the way out and run it through the anchor slot behind the seat. Latch the seatbelt and then let it pull all the way back in. Pull on the seatbelt to compress the car seat all the way down while keeping your knee on it. When you pull the seatbelt all the way out like that it locks and keeps it from being able to pull out until the seatbelt is released and back into it's storage position. Hope this helps.

Thanks for this. Curious, why would you not use both together?
