I know sound is highly subjective but there's a lot of experience and knowledge accumulated here. My 60 year old ears have a bit of tinitus.
I have a 2007 Access cab with a 22 w. single DIN headunit, stock speakers and a Sound Ordnance 8" underseat sub. I plan to do an amp to get between 40 and 75 watts RMS.
I'm looking for opinions on a component set that exhibits midbass more than the highs. Most highs can sound very shrill to me. This is why I'll use components, one set of tweeters is plenty, I don't need 2-ways anywhere.
Any one have any experience to offer?

    Thanks in advance.

Make sure to go with components with silk-done tweeters. My ears are the same way where highs can come off in the shrill side, and silk-dome keep things soft and smooth.

the Kenwood Excelon 7” are mid-bass kings.

I’ve been running the Kicker KS components and I’m very happy with them. They only made them in a 6.75” round speaker when I got them, but now they make them in a 6x9 that should keep great mid-bass with the power you’re looking at adding

Wow, thanks for the quick response, Destin. I was hoping to hear from you.

Are you set on passives or open to using DSP? Price range?

Looking to keep it below $200.00, if I can.
    Not sure on the DSP.

i have crazy tinnitis 24-7 for many years. i have found that adding power to my front coax speakers (Focal K2P, in my case) is the thing that brings clarity without artifacts or a nearly painful feeling i get from over-eq'd sources and most dsp. so my solution is a clean & simple source with good clean power so my fronts are moving enough air that i can get some feeling of it. i can't get that without good power in my experience, although i don't usually run it super loud.

i run no eq, no dsp, just passive crossovers at the amps and in the head, no rear speakers just fronts, and a good clean sub with 500W. fronts get 300W per side. as long as i keep the eq flat i can turn it up and it stays clear and comfortable.

Wow. Way more power than I'll have. I'll probably max out @ 45 RMS/channel. Maybe 75 if I can find a good sale.

just throwing it out there for consideration. I've been through many installs and usually came away feeling it wasn't right for me. power was the answer for my needs, and it took a long time to figure that out after trying everything else.

Yeah you will never get good mid bass with the power from a head unit. It’s just not enough to be effective.

Not saying you're doing it wrong, but IME most people whose experiences aren't improved by signal processing is because they're doing it wrong. :D All these tools do is give you more control. Unless they're introducing audible noise, and you follow sound tuning practices, they should ALWAYS improve the experience.

I overdo the power myself though - along those lines. Amps which are comfortably within their limits are further from the onset of audible distortion. Amps operating near, at, or above that limit are not only stressed but also making noise.

Good midbass is tough and IMO the hardest part of mobile audio.
