Should I take out the SMC and get the traditional spray-in?
The spray-in seems more durable then the SMC, which feels like just a thin layer of plastic.

    Thanks.

I think you're confused. There's no composited bed liner. That IS your bed. Your whole bed is plastic essentially.

I like mine to slide and more fits under the platform without the mat. What's SMC?

OP there is nothing under the black textured finish you see in your bed. The "bedliner" is the bed. Very different than any other truck. @EatSleepTacos showed a perfect visual of the way the bed is composed.

@Coot83 has a great write up on fiberglass bed sides. His pictures would give you an idea of the puzzle pieces that make up the Tacoma bed.

Oh so that plastic IS the bed. I thought it's a drop-in plastic liner. Stupid me.

You are correct. Kind of a funky design but yes the plastic looking/feeling black material you see in the bed floors & sides is the bed.

Composite bed is stronger than steel. It'll never bend, dent, rust, or rot. It'll outlast the rest of the truck.

You'll just have to reinforce the bed to put anything in it. Like a canopy. Oh , and don't set your chainsaw on the bed and let bar oil leak on it, it will degrade the bed and make it sticky. And don't worry about if fading,,, oh wait. Worry about that. Also don't worry about the bed bolts becoming loose over time. Oh wait, worry about that too.

Hey guys, how about this, what if I do the spray-in liner over the composite? Is it possible?

I used to have a Dodge Ram, and I had the spray-in liner, it was great.

I've owned my truck for 10 years, cut 3-4 cords of wood every year and use a chainsaw more than most. I've had none of those issues.
