So about a month ago I went on a long 4x4 trip through Ouray, Telluride, Moab, and Zion national park, and the cargo that was in the bed of the truck wore through the outer coating of the composite bed in a few areas. It is now white and smooth in the damaged areas.

Have any of you guys ran into this and what did you do to fix it? I was just going to hit it with some black spray paint but figured I'd see if any of you guys had ran into this.

Also, pay no attention to the vertical steel bars. I recently added those as I'm going to mount my traction boards there.

I'd probably just keep using it as a truck bed.

I was going to say the same thing, but im not sure that a heat gun will have the same effect on a composite as it does on abs. Worth a shot though

Looks good. Roll with it proudly. It will always remind you of that awesome trip you took. Some of the best 4x4 areas in the country.

Damn I miss living in New Mexico sometimes. Thanks for the reminder. I used to be all over that area in my first gen. RIP.

Next time ratchet strap the heavy stuff down when you know you are going to log a lot of off-road miles. Protects your truck bed, protects your gear, and protects you in case of a roll.

Use the bed as is. Truck beds will get beat up if you haul anything in it. Mine is scratched and gouged all over.

Brilliant, then when the white paint gets dirty paint it black, rinse and repeat.

It's not really white... just some bed dust in the rub area. Try 303 aerospace protectant and a microfiber.

depends on if its a thermoset or a thermoplastic. If the former it will just burn.

Will a spray in liner stick to the composite liner?

Not according to my Line-X guy. He won't do any of the composite beds. You might find a place to do it, but they likely won't honor the warranty.

With that said, just live with it. I hate it, too, but there's little to nothing that can be done. Maybe a sharpie, spray paint, but you're just going to get more if you put anything in the bed. A bed mat is the best defense so far. It doesn't take much to make a scar in this bed.

Hopefully, in the next Tacoma design, they will use a steel bed coated with Line X, I forgot how much better steel is. No need for stiffeners or tailgate dampener needed since the tailgate is Aluminum and virtually weightless.

Thanks for the replies guys. I got these scuffs before I had the bed mat. I did have everything ratcheted down, which is exactly how it happened. Had my totes and water jug not been strapped in, there wouldn't be rub marks. I'm hoping the bed mat and incoming tonneau cover will keep everything contained rather than strapping stuff against the sides.

Just going to touch up these spots with some black spray paint and call it good. That really sucks about not being able to Line-x the bed.

Also, it definitely is white underneath the top coating. I tried wiping it down already with a microfiber towel and it dried white again.
