bags or coilovers. only way to fix it is to fabricate, might as well get a better feeling ride if you do

Let's get This ball rolling again. Buddy is prototyping a mount for coilovers. I should have them on the truck hopefully within 2-3 weeks. No price as of yet. Stay tuned. A750DC53-0562-4C36-B42E-F34BC7069741.jpg

Sweeeeeett!! These are for the front I’m guessing? If so any clue what coilovers will work with our trucks?....I know QA1 makes a coilover kit for our trucks but it’s super expensive for just the front 2 and I’d really like to see someone make either a bolt on mount or we’d on mount for the rears. Either way those should be awesome!

its a universal design. they should work with qa1, viking. there is no specific coilover for our truck. its all frankenstein builds. for the rear, thats another story. theres no way around fabricating for it. i was thinking using 1 leaf to center the axle housing and using the existing mounts for a coilover. ghetto, yes, but it should work.

Yeah I’ve thought about just putting an airbag where a lowering block would go that way the leafs still center it but idk how sturdy it would be even with traction bars unless you went full 3-4 link

Been meaning to post this a while. I got an extra inch in the rear drop going to the stock 4x4 leafs. Perfectly level with the stock front.

Slightly stiffer ride. My sense is that the spring rates are similar, but there is less travel on the 4x4 springs. The wheels are 17x8 Voxx with 235/45 Dunlops.

hello. I'm now contemplating a more sporty look versus a slight lift and larger wheels and tires bc 07' 5lug 4 banger auto gearing is sort of ass and I'm not really going to be off-roading at all anyways. A little gravel travel here and there for hiking and camping is likely though. I already have a set of 16x8 +30 wheels to use. no tires yet for them so that's a little up in the air now.

    so questions I have are:

What's the consensus on how much you can lower the rear without notching the frame?
What parts give you that amount of lowering?

I see that the X-runner front shocks will lower my base 5 lug 1/2". Is that with the OEM X-runner front springs and spring pads as well?

Hmmm...I think I will add my .02 cents to this thread.
I started out installing Tundra Racing/SOS front lowering kit w/ 5/8” low profile bumpstops, OEM X-runner Bilstein’s & OEM X-runner front springs. The alignment shop couldn’t get the alignment in specs and the ride was let’s say pretty damn stiff!

For the rear I just installed a set of X Bils., 5/8” low profile bumpstops, 2014 4x4 leafs, then added a cutoff 1/4” thick leaf on right side & 1/2” thick leaf on left side between the spring and axle to help with the “Taco Lean”. I also added an X-runner rear sway, Moog end links & SOS mounts. I had the axle mounts welded as the U-bolts slipped.

I got tired of the ride and my 19” staggered tires wearing out on the inside front. I put back the stock front springs, this helped the ride and the alignment was closer after I went back. The stock springs raised the front about 1/2” if that.

I knew about the adjustable QA1 coilover’s so I started really looking at them. Worked at getting nice upper mounts made. This was the hard part! Finally the 2nd. fabricator made me some upper mounts and there was a few members asking for a set so I had 5 sets welded up and powder coated. Boy was this a mistake because most bailed out on the $200 price tag for the mounts. Others are getting $165 plus for theirs. The ones I had made were a better design, look better & powder coated. It took a long time to sell the 4 extra sets. Trust me I lost money trying to help others and never again.

So I built a set of front coilover’s from QA1 DS502 shocks & 525# springs and added QA1 TS703 rear shocks. I adjusted the ride hight to where it was with the stock springs & SOS kit...My tires were still wearing on the inside. So I called DJM and asked if anyone had just used the upper control arms without the lowers? I can’t go to low because the size of the tires & wheels. Running 245 & 255/50-19’s or 28.6” & 29” tall tires. DJM said they didn’t know of anyone doing this. So I gamble on a set. Luckily they are now powder coated black and to tell the truth I could have done a better job w/ rattle can, talk about crude! I finally got them aligned in specs plus I dropped the front an 1/2” more.

Here’s the part that doesn’t make any sense, once the DJM UCA were installed & alignment was done they caused the front to drop an extra 1” or so. I adjusted the coilover’s up & trust me I’m confused! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Now the funny part is I’m selling the coilover’s less the mounts. Why, I want softer & shorter shocks and springs and I’m also selling the rear shocks... I don’t drive the truck much just finished the URD SC system.
These are what I had made...

I know this entire thead is for the 5 lug. But instead of making my own thread asking this and getting flamed like everyone else who has posed the question about lowering a 4x4, I'd rather talk to like minded individuals.

That being said, I think you guys can help point me in the right direction. Thank you

Who's used this kit I linked? Any recommendations on a coil to drop the front enough to match the rear drop? Any recommendations on rear leafs to replace my flat recall leafs. Just something to match the OEM leafs, but stronger and won't go flat.
