So I've read that the standard spring compressors you can rent at an auto parts store don't fit OME springs (specifically working with 880s) - are there any spring compressor tools that have worked with OME springs? I'm specifically trying to compress my 880s and move up a notch in the Bilstein 5100 shocks so I'll need a tool that can be removed from between the coils after they are compressed just a bit more than when inserted.

Understood I can bring it to a shop too but I'm sure it will end up being a few hundred for this simple task...

    Never heard that before.

There are two types of spring compressors you can rent. You need the one for struts.

    Looks something like this:

IIRC, the one I rented (like a decade ago, lol) the cups didn't quite fit well enough so those little safety clips weren't able to fully engage, but that was on my OEM coils...

Don't compress them while it's still on the truck. Take them off, and set it flat on the garage floor.

have you had it quoted? I think last time I carried struts and coils into a shop they charged me $40 to compress and swap them to new struts. At that price it wasn't worth the effort to try and do it myself :notsure:

I was able to compress OME 881s with the kind of compressor jbrandt mentioned. It wasn't too bad only after everything was assembled it was a little tricky to take off, but just unscrew the whole thing.
