This is exactly right. The AT's diff gear ratio is 3.9. The MT gear ratio is 4.3. It makes for a whole different driving experience but at highway speeds it's not really very good for MPG's. That's what shocked me about the OTT tune. It shouldn't have made a difference with MPG's at highway speed but I picked up an average of 2MPG's there. The AT would have to have 5.29 diff gears to be similar to the MT. Go figure?

Again I never claimed my truck perfect, although it's the best I've owned since I started driving, plus several here that I've spoke with are perfectly happy with their gen3 tacoma's, saying there's nothing wrong. I'd be an idiot to spend money on something thats not needed, or wanted. If others want to fine, far be it from me to stop them. Its only on tw that these complaint's keep coming up.

I only got the tune cuz I wanted one. On stock tune, throttle response was lacking but I learned to live with it.

I didn't find that any tune, OTT included but others as well like Yotawerx and KDMax, fixed my motor to drive like any other normal motor. I still had plenty of low end lag to complain about. I also gained absolutely no MPG. I do drive it hard in town so I wouldn't expect mpg there but I had 0 gains on the highway while cruising either. The stock tune is weird and I'm not a huge fan but I've decided to stick to it over all the aftermarket stuff. For me once I changed to 5.29s, the throttle was too jerky to be enjoyable, even on lite or mild throttle settings. It was jerky and aggressive, yet there was still very little actual power. Made for an odd experience. I've found that the heavily padded stock throttle settings actually make driving with the gears a bit better.

Still wish there was torque down low though, the gears didn't make it like any other vehicle either - there's still nothing down there, it's just a bit better, though the gears made a big difference everywhere else as I achieve the mid range power easier now.

It must be a lot of fun driving with the MT and 5.29's. If I pulled my camper more than I do I'd entertain them. The OTT tune didn't help with my local MPG's, I was happy that I didn't loose anything there. It did help pulling my camper though, about 2mpgs better. I've been on 6, 200mi highway trips since the tune and I've averaged about 2mpgs better. For me the tune made a big difference pulling my camper. I can pull in 5th now, and I couldn't do that at all before so there's an obvious torque increase for me there. I'm happy with the tune, it surly helped me.

It begs the question, why are you commenting on tunes when you say you don't need, or want one? It's fine with you not needing or wanting one. Others, like me, do need and want a tune and are happy with their benefits and are just sharing our experiences, with the tune.

Thats a fair answer. As far as throttle response, my truck doesn't have any problem there. You just touch the skinny pedal lightly, and you're off to the races. Floor it, and you're smoking the tires, just as my tundra did. Its as good, or better than any of my past vehicles.

Others were saying to me, get a tune, and you'll notice the difference.....my reply was why would I need one when I'm perfectly happy with the way my truck currently runs. If others need one, so be it. You don't mess with stuff that runs well.

2018 tacoma sport 4x4. All car manufactures use 93 octane when stating HP. The V-6 in the taco does not produce 278 HP with 87 octane. Find a steep grade and compare the downshifts for yourself, 87 vs 93(91 above 2000’ elevation.) The problems of the 6 speed auto all go away with premium fuel. Don’t listen to me or anyone else, you need to experiment and make your own decision. Yes, 87 fuel is OK, the computer will just dial back the performance if that is OK with you.

To be fare, it does not produce 278 hp 93 octane even on tuned trucks
