    (Jimmyh..Is there more than one?)
    Yes, A/C compressor.
It had an obnoxious occasional rattle at stop lights. Even when the a/c was off and w/ just the fan on.
It would never make the noise for the macanic, of course.
When they put it on the rack... saw the compressor was "bady cracked". And some other things needed replacement belts/pullys while the compressor was removed.
    $1800 was the quote.
It didn't seem like something I should ignore.
I walked home,... it will be done tomorrow afternoon.

Just trying to get clarification. You said "Air Compressor" Toyota doesn't come with an Air Compressor....

An A/C Compressor ( Air Conditioner Compressor ) is a different animal entirely.

I would say that A/C Compressor, belt and Pulleys for $1,800 is a good price.

That being said I think the Mechanic is full of poop as a cracked A/C Compressor is not going to work properly.

Did he show you the crack?

Does the Air Conditioner System work other than the intermittent rattle?

For eighteen hundred bucks seems like he found your crack alright.
