I was told the little round dot near the plastic was where the chip was - sounds credible - and the pix lack that dot

Who knows. Could just be a diff between the '09 and '08 models. I have been following a DIY cruise control thread and apparently the '09's don't have some the preinstalled wiring the earlier years had. And some of the trucks made in Mexico were a bit different also. Confusing, eh?

My 2009 X-Runner Key (I have immobilizer) has the little dot on the metal part of the key just under where the rubber meets the metal part.

You Are Correct Mingy, if theres a round dot on top of the shaft near the plastic then you have it, if no dot then you dont, i work at Lowe's in the hardware department and i cut alot of keys everyday dont go to the dealer if you want another key with a chip go to your nearest lock shop and there alot cheaper there $40 bucks or so better then paying $115 or $130 at the dealer
