Adding an intake an exhaust does reduce this significantly.

I sure would love to see something like this also.... Just any solution to this problem.
Can anyone confirm that a CAI helps this. I wonder what sensor tells the computer that we have pushed the clutch in?
I know it is not the clutch pedal switch bc i have overrode that switch and still have these shitty shifting conditions.

I don't think it's only a matter of when the clutch is pushed in. The computer screws with the throttle a lot. It's just the most noticeable when trying to make shifts or start out.

as said early on in this thread, the throttle is "held open" on shifts in manual transmissions for reduced emissions. When you go from open throttle to closed during a shift you dump a rich mixture in the exhaust and this reduces or eliminates this. This feature is used on other vehicles. My tacoma is worse than my Evo (which also has it). For the Evo, people have figured out the codes and location for this and it can be removed from the ECU programming to eliminate it- people want to eliminate if for immediate engine braking.

That's awesome, I hope someone is brave enough to figure out how to disable this on our trucks, I'm sure it will help us get better mileage seeing how our manuals get worse mileage then the autos!

exhaust doesn't help in throttle response...a CAI does help a little...but if you want an even better throttle response get yourself an X-1...you feel it instantly after installing the kit...:D

I'm lucky to get 15 mpg and I shift at about 2100, Also I have a 2.5" lift with 33's, cai, and exhaust, so those probably dont help.

the intake helps but the 33's definitely don't help you out there...

I'm on stock size tires (BFG KM2's), APR X-1, TRD CAI and I'm able to get 20+ MPG mixed with highway and city driving...:D manual tranny shifting at 2K...

I would beg to differ about the cai, I find that it makes my mileage worse, it makes my truck sound better but definitely the mileage is worse. Could just be that I step on it a little harder with it, but idk. Also its an afe the same as the trd with a pro dry filter, so its not a piece of junk like the k&n.

lol...there's your problem...you can't keep your foot of the throttle...:D

take it easy during acceleration and you'll see its not the AFE CAI that's giving you bad gas mileage...its your driving habits...

but don't worry like you every now and then I let my foot get a little heavy...

get yourself a SG2...and you'll be able to monitor exactly how much MPG you are actually getting...after I got my SG2 my driving habits changed drastically; at least that's how I'm able to get my 20+ MPG on almost every tank...

Agreed, starting out is sometimes rough, and sometimes not. Makes me feel like my passenger is thinking, "This guy can't even drive manual, and he has had it for a year +".

I saw a promotion for a plug-in device that goes between the resistor/sensor thingy connected to the pedal and the wiring that plugs into the resistor. I think it was on hot rod TV or Truck U or something like that on SpeedTV. The device is supposed to give the throttle a more direct feel on drive-by-wire vehicles. Here's an article about one example of this type of device:

I would already have one, but unfortunately they don't make one for the '05-'08 year MTs. Supposedly though, the only problem is that the position of the parking brake operating rod is in the way. That's what Sprintbooster told me anyway. It seems incredible though that they couldn't find a way around something so simple.

Isn't the fuel delivery computer controlled? Why would the injectors keep dumping fuel when the throttle is closed? Just plain weird.
