My apologies if this has already been done before. Since I’ve been stuck at home, I’ve been busy tinkering in the garage. I was trying to figure out a way to conceal a pistol in my truck. I think I figured it out since I have plenty of usable space in the console to make something.
    F183FF4B-DDEE-4C7F-A2B9-760C0204787B.jpg
So I tested out the space using my .45 and 9mm as templates.

And cut out a piece of 1/2 whiteboard to the exact dimensions of my console. After that I found the exact same felt pattern and applied it using plenty of spray adhesive.

Then I added some foam so that the cover wasn’t resting directly on my pistols. These allowed it to sit perfectly flush when inside.

Wallah!! What you can’t see under the faux base is my 9mm and spare magazine. I had to remove one of the foam inserts in order to stuff my spare magazine, but it works. There’s a tiny screw that’s inserted in the corner (you can’t see it). This is what I pull up on in order to remove the cover.

Interesting. How do you remove it quickly?

Why do you need a place to conceal inside your vehicle?
    Why hide a spare mag?
I like what you did. Good job!

If you look at the 5th picture, you’ll see a small screw. I pull up on it and the cover slides right out. Because of the screw’s location, it’s not easily detectable and doesn’t elude to suspicion for those not inquiring.

Great question. There’s no purpose for the spare mag. I just want everything together, but my purpose was mainly for road trips and to keep out of sight from the kiddos.

I see it now. It was cut off in the last pic. Nice design and execution.

Are the foam pieces positioned to keep it from sliding around?

I positioned them so nothing would slosh around and to keep the platform level. Worked out surprisingly.

Great work, just be careful. I also have a Smith M&P, love it!

Hidden compartments are not illegal everywhere and/or with every use. Just be aware of varying laws about what can be in them and how that can change state to state, when driving. I am no lawyer, but if your have you handgun in there for a legal purpose in Ohio (for example, was easy to find) that should be no problem, but if something is illegal about you having it, having it loaded, or lying to police, it could catch another charge.
Ohio just as an example: http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/2923.241v1

It’s not loaded (as in magazine is no longer inserted) and I definitely would let LE know. You offer some great perspective I’ll take when traveling. Like you, I love my M&Ps!

Here's my solution. Custom cam lock to restrict any access to the center console and a magnet mount.

Nice! I’ve shot my fair share of pistols and it’s definitely the softest shooting 9mm I’ve ever shot. Probably my favorite too.

So why have it in reach in the first place if it’s not loaded ? Maybe because I carry with one in the pipe I don’t understand people that leave their fire arm unloaded but within reach. The last thing I want to have to worry about is being so nervous during a DGU that I have to put a magazine in and the rack the gun.

Just make sure if you are going on a road trip with it concealed that it's legal to have it concealed in the areas you'll be traveling through, even if it's legal on your permit. Seems a bit unnecessary to me, or you could just get a center console vault or something and it would be locked too.
