The past few mornings, I’ve been finding pretty heavy condensation on the inside of my windshield. I’ve never had this issue before, truck is a 22 double cab SR5. I haven’t driven the truck much over the past two weeks, as I’ve been on vacation, just a few short trips, and moving it in and out of the driveway so my wife can get her car in and out of the garage. I know it’s not the heater core because of the lack of use lately. I’ve checked the carpets and they’re all dry, checked underneath the back seats, everything is dry. We have had rain recently, but not a ton, and the nights have been cold. Oh, and the condensation is on the windshield only, no other windows. Any ideas?

It happens. Hang a damprid bag and crank the heat and fan when you do drive it.

Just because you haven't used the heater much, the heater core may still be bad.

Hmmm watch out for any water leaks. I’m just being honest. Check your rugs after heavy rains and really use your nose while in the truck. They’re not common on tacomas.

Had a leaky OEM roof rack and saw the same thing. First thing is to figure out where it is leaking.
If you get a dry day, drive with the windows open to blow out the moisture.

My salvage g2 did that all the time, leaked like a sieve! It’s real fun when you live where it’s cold and you have to scrape the ice off the inside :)

If you have the recirculate button on, try turning it off so you are drawing fresh air in.

Pretty common on vehicles that sit for a period of time in winter. The sun is rising and setting, but the days are shorter. Sometimes the interior is colder than the outside air, sometimes vice versa. The windshield and glass is the thinnest interface between these temperature ranges so the condensation occurs there

if the coolant level is fine it's not leaking, you'd smell it if it was

Like Bro said, it's Normal to some degree.
If you don't use the truck a lot, moisture in the air will condense on the windows just sitting there.
The surface temp on glass wont be equal to the air temp.. Once the inside air gets warmer than glass you get condensation.

I have this happen in the summer. I have gone out to the truck and seen it on m y windshield.
But mine is due to body sweat. (I do lawn care) I now use towel and seat covers, then take them out and let them dry over night.
Keeping the windows cracked so that the air temps inside stay closer to outside helps a lot also.

When you drive the truck and have the heater on, make sure the A/C button is on. The A/C will pull condensation out of the air before it is heated and blown into the truck. I never shut off my A/C, even in winter. It helps keep the windows dry. It helps in the wet coast where I live. We have lots of condensation and moisture in the air here.

If you have it set to defrost. The A/C will run automatically. Even if the A/C light isn't on.

I mostly get windshield condensation when I leave the heater in the defrost setting when I shut the truck off.

Turn on the defroster and it'll clear up.

Also check if there are leaves blocking the air intakes at the base of the windshield, under the hood. That can reduce the amount of fresh drier air coming in.

Having the exact same problem with my 2020 Audi Q3. Taking to the dealer tomorrow for a check. Floors and interior are bone dry. Interesting point that it happens to cars that sit a lot and don’t see daily use. This could be the problem for me too.

I don’t believe that is the case on Canadian models; we’d just get ice in the coils half the year.

The manual advises against using the A/C for defogging when it is below freezing (32F, OC) or when it is very humid outside.

Seems counterintuitive that it would come on automatically since both conditions are fairly common in different parts of the US too.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. It happened again this morning. I noticed condensation on the inside of the windshield last night, so I wiped it off with a towel. This morning I went to move the truck so my wife could leave, and the truck was covered with ice. I turned on the defroster, and noticed water all over the inside of the windshield, not sure if it was frozen before I turned on the defroster. The truck said the outside temp was 32 degrees, so I’m sure it got a few degrees colder than that overnight. The truck is in the garage now, with the windows cracked open a bit.
