I’m having an issue with my trucks condenser and I’m not very experienced with ac systems so please bare with me. My truck is a 96 with the 3.4 in it and I noticed earlier today a sort of hissing noise coming from the front of the truck. As I investigated I noticed that it was coming from the “receiver can”? If I’m correct on that terminology. I can hear the leak coming from one of the two metal hoses at the top of the can due to whenever I put a slight amount of pressure on them with my finger it would cut the leaking in and out. My question is, being as how it’s november and I really haven’t had my ac compressor working, is this something that’s gonna drain my Freon out? Has anyone else had this experience and what sort of outcome has this come to? I sat outside with the truck for about 30 minutes and it didn’t stop the hissing noise so I’m curious to know what’s leaking. Thanks in advance for all the help guys!

the can is the reciever/dryer and yes the freon is gone. Is the metal line broken or loose or ?
The reciever dryers are relativly inexpensive and easy to replace. If you let the system sit too long with no freon in it the mositure from the atmosphere will cause issues in the future. You are going to have to get the system evacuated before a recharge.

I honestly can’t tell if it’s broken or loose but being that it sits behind the grill I don’t know how anything could’ve hit it to break it. It just started leaking today that I’m aware of. I couldn’t see any cracks or breaks in the line but then again I was relying on my phone’s flashlight.

I went and looked at my 96... there are two short small diamerter lines that come off of the reciever that terminat at an installation block... it sounds like the line broke at that block. I do not know if they are avalible from the dealer or not. Replace the orings when you replace/order the line(s).

Cool thanks man, I’ll check with the dealer. Would it be a good idea to replace the receiver while I’m replacing the lines?

I also noticed my ac compressor is not engaging anymore. Even with the ac button on. Is it acknowledging the fact that there’s no Freon in the system or do I have another issue?

No freon, no ac, no compressor.
