Condenser Maintenance

My condenser has a hole in it - getting it replaced - I live in NJ - winter salt country - any suggestions/links on preventative maintenance. Thanks for any replies.

 

Just protect it from debris without compromising airflow and keep it clean for optimal life and performance. When a bunch of fins start getting flattened again, sit down and gingerly straighten them and you'll be golden

 

Thanks - should I clean it with H2o and or Condenser cleaner like I would home and commercial building condensers ?

 

They make a foaming condenser cleaner (available at refrigeration supply houses) but mine is 11 years old and I have not cleaned it. When I worked in the industry, I used the foaming cleaner all the time on truck and trailer units and it did make a difference. Like Joba said they make a fin comb that will straighten any bent fins from debris. I do have a very small leak in mine and have been charging the system once a year, when it gets worse, I will change the condenser. Good luck

 

Thanks - They just put in a new condenser - APC brand - I hope it's good - never heard of it myself. I'll check out the foaming cleaner.

 

I use this or similar on my truck and home AC condenser coils at least once a year. I also try to get as much as I can on the radiator fins and the trans cooler too. It says you don't have to rinse, but I do. A lot of bug and other road grime builds up over a short period of time. The first time I used it on my truck it lowered the inside temp by 5° .
