I own a 2017 tacoma trd off road 4x4/ You were all so kind to explain that a noise I was hearing when going up and down a hill in crawl control was normal. The noise resembles a ticking and rattling noise. I called the Toyota web site and finally received their response. The person I spoke with implied that the noise may be an issue and that they were going to have the dealership call me about it. So I spoke with a tech at the dealership and he also told me that the sound occurs in crawl as the ABS and computer is controlling the uphill and downhill speed. What do you all think about this chain of events. I expected a professional explanation from the online Toyota people as they should know about this issue. Now I am a little confused. I appreciate your time, knowledge, and help.

It's the noise of abs actuators hitting each wheel to control traction at each corner. it's completely normal.

I believe that it is modulating the brakes at all 4 corners and is controlling the speed at which each wheel turns. Im sure there are all kinds of associated noises that go along with that. Oh and i'm sure someone can give you a better more technical explanation of this.

Consider this, the response you got from the online service was probably from a person who never has ridden in a Tacoma, much less used crawl control. If the enthusiasts here as well as a tech says it is most likely normal, I would feel more confident in that opinion vs someone reading a script and responding to online/call in questions.

I know it's normal but I don't use it because it sounds like my truck is falling apart.

I decided to try it going up some ledges just for fun. Both of us were laughing so hard I had to turn it off. I'm sure it'll work good when stuck in sand like the videos.

I put the right side of my '16 TRD Offroad into a snowy ditch on Mt Ashland on Saturday and used crawl control for the exit. It made one hell of a racket...while it flawlessly rolled out of the ditch. Love this feature and hope I'll have many other opportunities to use it :)
