Not to drag it out but I'm curious, why do you need a new tcase? What is happening with your original?

100%. Would go this route. @gearcruncher's thread (above) has a ton of valuable info in it to help with this job. Pair it with a few other existing threads here and youtube vids, totally possible to do.

Thanks, I'll play around with it. There's one at a scrap yard near me, only 275,000 miles on it haha

Fwiw, I bought my truck with 268k and I’m now pushing 383k.

it’s always a gamble at the junk yard but, if it was kept oiled, there should be no problem using one with 275k, the junk yard i go to will take back a part if it is complete phubar. It worth asking if they will take back the scrap part if it is broken

Not quite sure exactly, but I'm on my third transmission and I'm seeing lots of metal shavings towards the back of the pan closer to the transfer case. Trans is new, drive shaft is new, process of elimination I guess. Just had the most recent trans put in and its still making a ton of noise and lacking power. Not driving it anymore, took it to a shop, they couldn't see anything wrong with the trans either.

I'll have to ask about that, at this point I just want to get back on the road, car pooling with my wife who works 30 min in the opposite direction is getting old...

Just an update, I eneded up getting the correct one from Toyauto Mart (http://www.toyautomartca.com/).

Those guys knew their stuff and educated me on how I could tell if I'm ordering the right one. If a truck has a button to the left of the steering wheel for electronical locking rear differential, then it has the electronically actuated transfer case.

Cost me nearly twice as much with shipping from CA to NC, but I was happy to pay it knowing it was the right one and I could get back on the road.
